Japanese car manufacturers Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors will form a joint venture that will produce an electric mini-car, reports the Japanese newspaper Nikei today.

Both companies already have experience in the production of electric cars. Nissan, whose main shareholder is the French Renault, previously invested four billion euros in the electric car "lif", which is the best-selling electric car in the world.

In 2009, Mitsubishi launched the electric model "Mitsubishi Outlander", which costs 1,78 million yen (12.900 euros). The newspaper states that the new mini-car produced by the two companies would cost even less, around 1,5 million yen (10.890 euros).
