The temporarily halted production in European car factories due to the coronavirus pandemic will hit the auto industry, but companies, together with medical institutions and authorities, have found a way to use their capacities in times of crisis.
A large number of companies in Europe and the world, as reported by autonet.hr, have made themselves available to the authorities for the production of medical equipment, above all much-needed respirators to facilitate the breathing of patients with severe symptoms of the coronavirus.
In Great Britain, three expert teams were established, led by the aeronautical equipment manufacturer Megit and the car companies McLaren and Nissan.
Their goal in the extremely short term is to start the production of medical ventilators.
They announced the prototypes in the next seven days, while serial production should start in four weeks at most.
McLaren experts are working on a new design of a simple fan, while Nissan is helping existing manufacturers to increase production.
In Italy, the manufacturer of medical ventilators, Siare Engineering, is already working in cooperation with Ferrari and Fiat Chrysler to start producing these devices as quickly and in as large a number as possible.
The Volkswagen Group has also made itself available. According to autonet.hr, they are exploring the possibility of using 3D printer technology to make respirators on their 125 industrial 3D printers in cooperation with several other companies.
In the USA, specialists from Ford, General Motors and Tesla are engaged in the development of medical equipment. GM's suppliers are already preparing deliveries of parts for about 200.000 ventilators.
