Crossover class in Tivat about the most important work of Anto Staničić

An unusual program dedicated to the famous Tivat children's writer was held in the Tivat National Library

Last night, "Day dedicated to Anto Staničić" - a well-known children's writer from Tivat, was marked with an unusual program - an all-round crossover class, in the National Library and Reading Room of the Center for Culture (CZK) Tivat.

This event was organized by the Secretariat for Culture and Social Activities of the Municipality of Tivat in cooperation with CZK, within the "Days of European Heritage" manifestation.

The director of CZK, Professor Neven Staničić, spoke about the recognized and well-known writer who was born in Tivat exactly 100 years ago, and the audience included members of the Drama Section of the Mixed High School "Mladost".

Through the interesting interactive concept of this lesson, they had the opportunity to get acquainted with how Staničić's most famous work - the novel "The Little Pirate" looks like in the form of a literary work, in a dramatic form as the text for the theater play "The Little Pirate" that CZK recently staged at stage in cooperation with the City Theater from Podgorica, and a possible film script.

"As a children's writer, Anto Staničić was extremely popular in the former Yugoslavia, and his works were translated and published in several European countries. "The Little Pirate" is still part of compulsory school reading in Serbia, while, unfortunately, this is not the case here in Montenegro, where this work, despite its extraordinary artistic, literary and educational characteristics, has been removed from the list of compulsory reading for primary school. "- Staničić pointed out, adding that the centenary of the birth of his famous surname - the writer, in Tivat, among other things, is also being marked by the reissue of the three most famous novels of Anto Staničić, which will be published in the form of a trilogy during November by CZK Tivat and that book will be given away to schools, libraries and students in the future , not putting it on sale in bookstores.

He spoke to Tivat high school students about his personal acquaintance and contacts with the famous writer who, even during his lifetime, was not as well known and respected in his hometown as was the case in Belgrade, where Anto Staničić spent most of his life and professional career, working as a Radio journalist. of Belgrade.

"We, as producers, have shown how a good novel like "The Little Pirate" can be made into a good theater play for children and young people, and an outstanding script for a very exciting film could be made, but its production would be very, very expensive because considering the theme, it would look like "Pirates of the Caribbean". It goes beyond the Montenegrin possibilities of production, but as one theme that, I would say, was written by Anto Staničić out of pure nostalgia and the need for his Boka in Belgrade back in 1956, a great and beautiful fairy tale was born, ideal for, let's say, what Disney is doing with his film production. A fairy tale serves to form and educate young people on certain traditions and values, but unfortunately, we are not educated here on our own, domestic fairy tales like this one by Anto Staničić, but mostly read and learn others. It's a big mistake, but it's a good thing that we remembered, even posthumously, that there is also our kind of literature and our fellow citizen Anto Staničić, who, as we can see, can return to Bok in the form of various forms and mediums of artistic expression." , pointed out Neven Staničić.

Anto Staničić was born in Tivat on December 18, 1909. He finished primary and secondary school in Dubrovnik, and in Zagreb he studied economics, after which he worked at Radio Belgrade, in the newsroom for children's shows, then in the Radio School, and in other newsrooms.

During his life, he wrote a large number of books for children, and he found inspiration in Boka Kotorska and its inhabitants. His great role model was his grandfather who was a sailor, and he mostly wrote about his homeland, noble and simple people and their sailor life.

His first book, which he published in 1951, is entitled "Stories on the Edge of Truth". Then he wrote a children's novel "The Little Pirate". He found inspiration for the book "Little Pirate" in the past of old Boka. Through this book, he presented his childhood memories. This novel has so far been translated into Slovenian, Macedonian, Hungarian and Czech. Other famous works of this writer are: "Warship Great Sultania", "Bamboo Staff", "Where the Waves Break", "African", "Seagull's Nest", "Which Way, African", "The Story of Sunica", " Homeless houses". The novel "Bamboo Stick" was translated and published in Bratislava in Slovak in 1977. From 1974 to 1979, he wrote three books of stories for children: "Binga", "Minus" and "Đerdan stories for children".

Anto Staničić received the literary award "Politikino zabavnik" for the novel "The Seagull's Nest" in 1981 as the best work for young people. He also received the charter and the "Dragon Children's Games" award in 1991.
