The Montenegrin Symphony Orchestra and one of the most famous and influential flamenco guitarists today, Juan Manuel Kanjizares, opened the 14th edition of the International Guitar Festival in Nikšić. The orchestra, which started this year's season with a concert in Nikšić, was conducted by Nada Matošević Orešković from Croatia.

Canzizares' "Mediterranean Concerto" for guitar and orchestra, which was commissioned by the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra for the needs of the EU project Music Up Close Network, was performed. It premiered in Barcelona in November last year, and was written as a tribute to Joaquin Rodrigo, the famous Spanish composer whose concerto "Aranhuez" is considered one of the best works of the classical guitar repertoire. And the rest of the program consisted of well-known orchestral works dedicated to great Spanish composers.

"I am very pleased. By the way, this is the premiere of my Mediterranean concert in Nikšić. I am extremely delighted with the orchestra, I liked them from the first rehearsal. I enjoy playing here, I love this audience, because it is full of respect. This is the energy that can be felt at the concert itself", Kanjizares said after the performance.

The famous Spanish guitarist has already participated in the Nikšić Guitar Fest.

"This festival is very important, because it inspires to the greatest extent the youth to deal with and get closer to that sound of the guitar. That is also my mission, as a teacher of flamenco guitar. This kind of festival is important for the development of the musical culture of young people in Montenegro", Kanjizares believes.

The director of the Festival, Goran Perišić, expressed his satisfaction that the cooperation with the Music Center is not interrupted, and he thanked the other institutions that have supported them all these years.

"After 14 years of nurturing the guitar and 14 festivals dedicated to the guitar and what was written for the guitar, we decided to dedicate this year's festival to Spanish music, to what it carries, so that all four concerts are in the spirit of Spanish music and for that reason the festival it has the working title of 'Viva Espana'", Perišić pointed out.

Although, as he said, every festival is a jubilee for them, for next year, when they celebrate 15 years of the guitar festival in the town under Trebjes, he announced a surprise that he did not want to talk about yet.

Tonight, in the Hall of the Nikšić Theater, starting at 20 p.m., the Spanish guitar duo, Manuel Canjizares and Juan Carlos Gomez, will hold a concert.

"The flamenco that we will present is the most representative Spanish music and we hope to create a real Spanish ambience in the concert hall. I have known Gomez for a really long time. He is an excellent guitarist and an even better person. We have a good relationship, and you will be able to feel that on stage as well." said Kanjizares.

The event, organized by the NGO "Anagastum", - in addition to the Music Center of Montenegro, was supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Government of Montenegro, the Municipality of Nikšić and the Nikšić Theater.
