With an unpretentious title, using simple language close to a diverse audience, Violeta Perunović presents her poetry to the Montenegrin public for the first time. Her collection of poetry, called "Nothing in particular", was published by the publishing house "Obodsko slovo" in whose bookstores the debut of this poet can be purchased.
When asked how and why she came up with the title "Nothing in particular", Perunović says that she did not want to impose herself on the readers, but rather to allow them to be attracted by the book or not, and to make their own judgment as to whether they like her poetry. and reveals what kind of poetry it is.
"I will compare the title of the book with the titles of the songs I write. There are a couple of songs that others have baptized, and I often leave songs without titles, that's a relief to me, because titles are not very important to me... There was one song, 'Nothing in particular, I love you', the title of which I hesitated, and that's how it is somehow it came to the title of the book. There is a lot of irony in the whole collection, it's a style that is close to me, so I made a similar joke about myself by calling the collection 'Nothing in particular', and I believe that maybe it will intrigue the readers. Personally, I don't see the importance of the titles, both of the songs and of the collection, that's why it's unpretentious," says Perunović.
The collection includes about a hundred of her poems, and is divided into three parts.
"Although readers may not recognize it, because these parts are more visible to me than to others, the collection is divided into travelogues, which I would separate as one unit, there are also some ironic and humorous poems in which I deal with life topics, everyday circumstances, and the third Part of it is, of course, the love that prevails in poetry. In that second part, my somewhat ironic approach to our everyday life is visible, which I also love. In addition, I practice, and I like to write poems in simple language that are so receptive to everyone, because such writers and poets were attractive to me in the past, so I probably built my style based on that, which is simple," says Perunović.
As she said that everyday life and social circumstances in general affect her and her poetry, she reveals what is most important, and whether irony and jokes are a kind of defense mechanism that she resorts to...
"Our social environment, that is, the politics during the last 30 years that created and constructed this environment in which we live, certainly had a great influence and must have influenced me. This is reflected precisely in all the ironic moments when a person has to accept the whole situation that we all lived. Many circumstances are anything but humorous, but let's talk jokingly about everything for that very reason. As for me personally, it's definitely my kind of defense mechanism... It's my way of accepting the situation I'm in, because if it's as bad as it was, then I'd rather joke about it all than whine." , she says.
Perunović also confirms that her poetry is dominated by personal experiences, and believes that this collection could also be viewed as her diary.
"I think that every song exudes that, autobiographical elements, so I would say that this collection is like my diary. I think that everything is lived in her, although sometimes not literally, of course. These are my experiences that I can't convey in any other way. Certainly the book is largely autobiographical and certainly I am in it. I'm also glad that people who know me, when they read these works, notice it and say 'This is so you'. I'm glad to hear that," she points out.
Perunović adds that promotions on the coast were planned, such as at the Belgrade Book Fair, but due to the epidemiological situation with the corona virus, they were postponed. The author says that she is not in a hurry, and will inform the public about all current events. She pointed out that she is especially grateful to the reviewers of the collection "Nothing in particular", professors of literature Lidija Tomić and Svetlana Koprivica, as well as the author of the illustration, Irena Milačić.
One should never be completely satisfied
Violeta Perunović had a collection of poetry prepared a few years ago, which she withdrew right before the press and decided to wait.
"I was once advised to write a second collection because I will always be dissatisfied with the first one. The second part is better, so I hope that this collection, although 'Nothing in particular', is better than the previous one, which was never published", said Perunović on one occasion.
Since then, some of the songs chosen have found a place in her official first collection.
"A couple of years ago, I made a second selection of songs, but when it was supposed to go to press, I stopped everything, because I was not completely satisfied. That material stood for several years, and then I made a new selection for the 'Nothing in particular' collection. There are few songs in it from the first planned collection, and again I would change a lot of things, because I think that a person should not always be completely satisfied, but should always question whether his work is good enough and why it is not, because it can always be better . That's how I say that this first book of mine is actually my second," Perunović told "Vijesta".
