The Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts needs a space that will be able to gather people who think differently and who are ready for dialogue in order to overcome all divisions in society.

That is the conclusion of yesterday's meeting on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts (CANU), where the guests were the President of the Assembly Aleksa Becic, Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapic, President Milo Djukanovic and Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Vesna Bratic.

Prime Minister Krivokapić said at the constitutive session of the CANU Jubilee Committee that Montenegro and its citizens are at a historical turning point, and that the Government is aware of the importance of CANU and the dialogue with that institution.

"As Prime Minister, I care very much about your opinion, your proposals and conclusions on all issues that are open or will be open... As the Government, we want to fully acknowledge your academic benevolence, benevolence and wisdom, which we put in the function of civil reconciliation and unification, civil solidarity and inclusivity, in the function of prosperity, which must not be questioned by particularism, subjectivism, irrationalism or narrow-mindedness", said Krivokapić.

The Prime Minister also pointed out that he wants today's gathering to result in the fruitful functioning of the Board, which will mark the jubilee - 50 years since the foundation of CANU in a dignified manner, as well as for this institution to look at all the successes and failures of its people.

"Fifty summers in which it was necessary to plow, sow, and reap fifty times - to gather the fruits of the greatest pioneers, builders, scientists, researchers and artists that this nation has. Good luck with your work and I want you to know that the current Government is aware of the importance of this institution, that it is ready to make its due contribution both in this and in your other projects, which we see as a sustainable investment in the future of our descendants", said the Prime Minister.

President of CANU Dragan Vukcevic emphasized that for the first time three leading men of Montenegrin politics are guests at an event organized by the Academy.

"As chairman, I am grateful to them. Those three people think differently about many things, but I am sure that all three of them share our opinion that we have no other home than Montenegro. Let's not touch the graves and the state to begin with. We haven't met 1918, '45, '89, '99... and we haven't met 2006 yet, not in a way to count but to talk about it. Montenegro needs a dialogue, a rational and factual dialogue. CANU owes it to Montenegro. I hope that there will be an opportunity to talk with the surveyor about financing and the completion of the construction of our building", he said.

President Đukanović emphasized that the formation of CANU left a strong mark on the development of the country and that it is important for the future development of Montenegro to be more intensively involved in these dialogues.

"One of the most important decisions made by Montenegro was the decision to form the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts CANU", announced the president of the country.

The President of the Assembly is convinced that CANU can make a great contribution and sees them as partners with which they can respond to challenges with a team spirit.

"We are in an atmosphere of division, and that is not good. Let the measure of patriotism be respect for the law, serving the people, giving a part of oneself for the common good. I am convinced that you, as a team of wisdom and expertise and experience and the cream of this society, can contribute to building a strong citizen of Montenegro that will defeat crime, corruption and subservience. I know that we have partners in you", emphasized Bečić.

Former president of CANU, academician Momir Đurović proposed that the celebration of this jubilee be held next year when there is no covid and that the construction of the Academy's main building be accelerated. He resented the reduction of the CANU budget by 30 percent.

"I am afraid that Montenegro and CAN do not understand what time means in the 21st century. We don't have time to build the road to Danilovgrad for two years, the CANA building for two years, and the highway for seven years. "CANU worked and will work to save our children because 50.000 are looking for work and the same number are looking for visas to leave the country", warns Đurović.

Academic Vice President Ljubiša Stanković presented part of the program planned for the 50th anniversary and pointed out that it is celebrated under special circumstances. He announced a monograph on the work and history of CANU in the period from 1971 until today, which includes the biographies of regular, part-time and foreign members of CANU, of which there are a total of 106, and the editor of the monograph is an academician and general secretary of CANU Dragan Radonjic. A bibliography of all CANU editions arranged chronologically, by edition, by author will also be published Oliver Todorovic.

As part of the fine art part of the program, an exhibition was announced, which includes the works of all fine artists who are regular, part-time or foreign members of CANU. The curator of the exhibition is an art historian Ljiljana Zeković which with the academic Dragan Karadžić is preparing a catalog that will accompany the exhibition "Fine artists members of CANU".

The film "Half a century of CANU" prepared by the director was also announced Branko Baletic, which will provide an overview of the Academy's recent activities. In addition to this film, the documentary "Nobel Prize Winners in honor of CANU" by the foreign member of CANU, the author, was also announced Veljko Milutinović.

The Post of Montenegro prepared a commemorative postage stamp "50 years of the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts", which will be issued on October 12, 2021, on Academy Day, when the Formal Session of the CANU Assembly was also announced.

General Secretary Radonjić referred to the reduction of the budget and emphasized the need for the Academy's space for the beginning of the creation of the "Encyclopedia of Montenegro", which CANU owes to Montenegro.

"This year, the Academy will publish more than 30 editions, on which more than 180 authors and associates worked", the secretary pointed out and announced capital editions in 2021 in the form of encyclopedias, monographs and studies.

A publication on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the CANU Center for Young Scientists and Artists has been announced, with brief biographical information of all members of the Center since its establishment and an overview of the Center's most significant activities, edited by Academician Ljubiša Stanković.

I am afraid that in Montenegro and CAN they do not understand what time means in the 21st century. We don't have time to build the road to Danilovgrad for two years, the CANA building for two years, and the highway for seven years. CANU worked and will work to save our children because 50.000 of them are looking for a job, and the same number are looking for a visa to leave the country," warned academician Momir Đurović.
