The series of lectures on the topic "The great and famous name of Njegoš" from November 12 to 14 is organized by the Nikšić Museums and Galleries on the occasion of the 170th anniversary of the death of Petar II Petrović Njegoš.
"Since he appeared as a spiritual and secular ruler, on the throne of Cetinje, after the reign of his intelligent uncle, Saint Peter of Cetinje, as a young bishop, ruler and national poet, Petar II Petrović Njegoš has caused, and still causes even more today, admiration and glorification on the one hand, but also denial, negation and contestation on the other," the organizers stated.
Tonight, the first lecture on "Njegoš's poetic work or the spark of immortal fire" will be given by Dr. Radoje Femić, while the moderator of the evening will be Marina Korać. On Saturday, Dr. Darko Đogo and Aleksandar Ćuković will speak on the topic "Peter Drugi Petrović Njegoš, our cultural pattern", and the moderator will be Svetlana Tomić. Director of Museums and Galleries, prof. Vesna Todorović will be the moderator of the lecture that will be held on Sunday, November 14, by the editor of the Serbian Literary Cooperative, Dr. Duško Babić, on the topic of "His Idea of a Nation."
All three evenings will be held in the City Hall at 19 p.m.
The organizers remind that 2013 marked the 200th anniversary of Njegoš's birth, while this year marks the 170th anniversary of his death.
"Njegoš passed away on October 19, 1851, the same day when, 21 years before that date, he assumed power. This long period of time in the life and culture of our people, after Njegoš, brought new trials, historical-political shifts and solutions that did not always suit our people, but in the image and work of their greatest compatriot and thinker, as in some collecting lens and mirror of our national being, as a people and as individuals, we have always been able to check our attitude, attitude and measure in our behavior towards ourselves and the world around us. And this anniversary should serve us to remember the great poet and return to reading and understanding his work", said the Nikšić Museums and Galleries.
