The most influential writers who create in the Russian language appealed through rare free online platforms and major European media to stop the war in Ukraine. The authors appealed to all Russian speakers to help spread the truth and correct information about the events in Ukraine. Among the signatories of the appeal is the winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature Svetlana Aleksievich, and support also comes from her fellow Nobel laureates Hertha Müller i J. M. Kucija.

"As writers, we appeal to all speakers of the Russian language. People of all nationalities. For those who are native speakers. We appeal to those for whom Russian is a second or third language. Today, the Russian language is used by the Russian state to inflame hatred and justify the shameful war against Ukraine. The official media constantly repeat endless lies that create a smokescreen around this aggression. The Russian people have been fed lies for years. Independent sources of information have been almost completely destroyed. Opposition leaders - silenced. The state's propaganda machine is running at full speed. In this situation, it is crucial that the full truth is revealed to Russian citizens about the Russian aggression against Ukraine. About the suffering and losses of the Ukrainian people. About the civilians who are the target and who are suffering. About the danger for the entire European continent. And possibly - all of humanity, given the fact of the nuclear threat. You you speak Russian. That's important. Please use all possible means of communication. Phones. Messengers. Emails. Reach out to people you know. Reach out to people you don't know. Tell the truth. If it is Vladimir Putin blind and deaf, maybe the Russians will listen to those who speak the same language. This unjust war must be stopped".
