Although she describes herself as a "layman in the sphere of poetry", but also that poetry is itself, her poems easily find their way to readers and win them over, so at the end of last year, the young poet was encouraged Nina Krivokapic independently published her first collection of poetry called "Bonaca za dušu". The collection, she says, was created slowly from the beginning of 2017, and by collecting poems and sometimes sharing them with friends, she realized that her words were liked by readers, that they influenced them and remembered them, which encouraged her to take the next, more serious step.
"By sharing my songs with close people, I realized that they find a way to people's hearts and that motivated me to improve my writing technique, and along with that, a stronger, also motivating, feeling for something higher and more complex in terms of creativity developed. This collection represents my debut in every sense of the word, because it is at the same time a newer part of me through which I proved to myself that as a layman in the sphere of poetry, I can express the relationships I build with other people and nature in a different way. The collection includes 33 songs, but these are only some of the total number of songs I own. In agreement with the team that helped me with the realization of the publishing house, we reduced the number of songs and thus left the possibility for the second part of the collection of the same name", explains Krivokapić at the beginning of the interview for "Vijesti".
She points out that her poetry is just beginning to find its way to a wider audience, and after one promotion in Podgorica, she is looking forward to a promotion in her native Bijela. In addition, considering that it is a samizdat, the book is distributed through social networks.
"The book is an independent author's publication. This means that the Law on Publishing Activity leaves the possibility for the author to independently publish his work. When you want to start the publishing process all you need to encourage and motivate you is love for what you have created and that you have found yourself in a new sphere of life. I was really lucky to get in contact with the right people at the right time, who understand and know how the process of publishing a work works, so in cooperation, primarily with the proofreader, I got the printing press, the reviewers, the necessary information about obtaining identification marks that are received from the National Library Đurđe Crnojević. In addition to all that, I must mention that I had financial support from two companies from Herceg Novi. Good will and hard work are always accompanied by happy circumstances", believes Krivokapić.
She says that she likes contrast in life, so her songs are full of contrasts and paradoxes, but love and goodness always win.
"Constant doubt within man and general ambivalence among people was my motive and something that would always imagine me in my thoughts about man. It has happened to everyone at least once in their lives that we like and dislike something, want and don't want, to be or not to be... It is very important to be aware of these opposing forces, and to strengthen our inner world with those emotions that ennoble and make us to stronger and better people. In addition to the stated motive, there is also the primary love for my family and my ancestors, as well as the motive of love for my birthplace. It seems to me that I have combined a philosophical mind and a way of thinking with the most important topics and spheres of interest in my life, which is love for myself, family and nature", reveals Krivokapić.
Some of her songs are directly related to and associated with the Bay of Kotor, which could not be avoided, she says, emphasizing her connection with that climate.
"Boka is my identity. All that I am. She is my home, family, friends, lots of memories, my grandma and grandpa. Boka is my identity card wherever I am... My mark and something that makes me different. My speech and accent, my overall expressiveness. Also my summer. Boka is a special part of Montenegro in every sense of the word. And as my lyrics say: 'Boko nasa,/ Our pride./ The pride of the black mountains around you,/ That you bring light/ And you give charm to the contrast'... She is truly the spirit of the body of our country", claims Krivokapić.
Her songs really show bonaca, they carry a feeling of peace, an undertone of sleepiness, romance, tenderness, and all in free verse, but also a free and naked soul, as is the title of one of her songs. In an interview with "Vijesti", the author points out that she does not like rhyme and the rules of verse, but rather lets words and emotions carry her, such as waves, wind, sighs...
"I don't like rhyme that much, although some songs have it. Even in my life, I don't like frameworks and standards imposed by one group of people. In this kind of art, I enjoy the freedom that, of course, should not hurt anyone. It is the freedom that gives me the possibility to write as the words come to me, and that in the end it looks more like a beautiful story written in verses. I love excitement and I don't follow established rules of writing. For me, the emotion and feeling that people create by reading is the biggest victory. When a verse makes you think, cry or laugh, nothing else matters. People's honesty and authenticity is appreciated. As for my recognizability of writing, I think that it has already stood out through 'Bonaca za dušu'", says Krivokapić.
And where does that name come from and whether "Bonaca for the soul" is perhaps exactly what poetry represents, either for the author or for the reader, Krivokapić says:
"For me, writing poetry represents a valve for my physical 'I', while for the soul it represents a path to the source of its power supply. It then becomes active and represents what is latent within me. I also said in the book that for me verses are emotions on paper, and in one poem I even indicated what emotion actually is - that which is invisible, unfathomable to the human eye, and yet the basis of every human being and the greatest creative energy for creators of poetry and art in general . Bonaca represents peace, as it happens in me when I create and write," she says and adds:
"For me, bonaca also means identity, because as a native of Bokeljka, I had to find a word that is closely related to that area. As I answered above, for me the beauty of poetry is peace. The peace I find while writing lyrics and connecting with some part of my non-physical being. External inspiration when it happens and when the verses start to line up in my head, I am always calm and ready to find a way to write them down wherever I am at that moment. It is interesting that I wrote the song 'Boka' from a dream. I woke up and typed it in my phone, and now it's one of my favorite songs. Sometimes it happens that months go by without inspiration, and sometimes I create several songs a day. All in all, the older I get, the more pronounced the talent and the better form of writing, which is slowly becoming authentic for me", concludes Krivokapić.
When asked how she would describe her poetry, but also how writing and enjoyment of poetry balances and complements other activities in life, including the way of living, she says that her poetry is everything that she is.
"My poetry is actually me. Emotional and sincere. People don't like to talk about their virtues, but that's why they are so ready to defend themselves when they are the target of attacks from others. I think that's why it's more honest to praise yourself and highlight the good sides of your personality. It is also my philosophy of life and justice. My mother called me Calimero because I always had to say or mention something that others kept quiet about. To fight for the truth and to be quick in reactions. Through the lyrics, I am partly expressing that part of justice that has yet to happen, and maybe it won't happen. Certainly, writing always eases my soul", admits the young Nina Krivokapić.
He is attending doctoral studies and advocates for a better youth policy
Nina Krivokapić was born in 1996 in Kotor. She completed her basic studies at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Podgorica, majoring in Social Policy and Social Work.
She earned her master's degree at the same faculty, defending her master's thesis on the topic "Possibilities and perspectives of older minors in Montenegro", and is currently attending doctoral studies. At the same time, she is also the executive director of a non-governmental organization, and all that together, she says, can exhaust a person, so she sometimes relaxes by writing and creating something new, and poetry always beautifully refines a person's spirit.
Regardless of all other obligations, Krivokapić is actively working on creating songs for the second collection, but he also reveals other plans...
"I am still active in writing new songs for the second part of the collection. In addition, I am also waiting for the writing of preliminary research for doctoral studies and many informal activities through a non-governmental organization that is starting work on a very important project called 'Chance for YOUth'. This project will include children who have left the institutional form of social protection and who are starting their new life path, where the community and society must be at hand. I would really like to emphasize another great passion of mine, which is youth policy in Montenegro. The entire work engagement and my formal and informal education lead to the development of awareness of the need for higher quality, better and more prosperous youth policy and greater representation of young people in social and political life. I continue to promote and affirm a more adequate policy for young people," says Krivokapić.
"Windows" show the black and white trick of life and tell how far we have come
When asked whether writing poetry is a hobby or a serious commitment, Nina Krivokapić says simply that "poetry is selfless love".
"It's simply you at your core. There is no room for materialization that would spoil my relationship to writing. It is a deeper commitment when I feel it. I try to approach each song honestly and openly so that the best comes out of me. Poetry offers me peace and harmony between the parts of my personality. She is the platform of my existence and the scene of expressing everything that I am, and I, for poetry, am just another infatuated with the other and the different," explains the young poet.
He goes on to describe the process of creating her songs, saying that inspiration is always there and everywhere.
"In life, people experience many things. Disappointments and joys, victories and defeats, rejections and acceptances are an integral part of life. It's all inspiration. What I love about artistic creation is the orientation of that group of artists focused on optimistic views of life, no matter how much someone considers it a fantasy or calls these people idealists-dreamers. I will give one example of inspiration, and it is about the large windows I had in my apartment. For me, they represented much more than objects, and the song 'Windows' was created, which depicts decisions as a black and white trick of life. Because when it's day we see the outside, and when it's night the reflection of our face in those windows is a representation of who we are and where we are with the decisions we make in life.
