Theatrical (co)productions from Montenegro were among the awardees at this year's Biennial of Stage Design BiSD.
The BiSD 2022 award for stage design of the play as a whole was awarded to the author team of the play "Blood Wedding", Federico García Lorca, which, in a co-production of the Serbian National Theater Novi Sad and JU Grad Theater Budva, was directed by a director who died early Igor Vuka Torbica.
In addition, the special award of BiSD Stage Design Biennial 2022 (ex aequo) was awarded to the author and performing team of the play "Anna Karenina", which is based on the novel of the same name Leo Nikolayevich Tolstoy directed Mirko Radonjic, co-produced by the Royal Theater "Zetski dom" in Cetinje and the Drama Studio "Prazan prostor" from Podgorica.
"The prize is awarded for the creative unity of the author and performing team, understood as a crucial building block of stage design, it is stated in the press release of Zetski dom.
The Regional Selection Team consisted of: Montenegrin producer prof. Janko Ljumović, producer from Slovenia Anja Pirnat, Croatian playwright Mirna Rustemović, actor and director from North Macedonia Besfort Idrizi, playwright from Bosnia and Herzegovina Asja Krsmanović and costume designer from Serbia Darinka Mihajlović better known as Selena Orb.
After several months of intensive work, the selection team chose 12 plays, and the decisions about the awards were made by a jury made up of: an architect from Serbia Radivoje Dinulović, architect, scenographer and visual artist from North Macedonia Filip Jovanovski and playwright, theater critic, musician and theater critic from Croatia Matko Botić.
The BiSD 2022 Grand Prix was awarded to the author team of the play "Criček in thematic sense", Ton Telegen, in directing Ivan Đilas and the production of the Slovenian National Theatre, Nova Gorica.
The BiSD 2022 special award (ex aequo) was awarded to the author team of the play "The Brothers Karamazov", based on the novel Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoyevsky, in directing Oliver Frljić and the production of the Zagreb Youth Theater - ZKM.
Prizes and recognitions will be awarded on September XNUMX as part of the Kaleidoscope of Culture program, organized by the Novi Sad - European Capital of Culture Foundation.
Biennale of Stage Design is an event founded by YUSTAT - OISTAT Center Yugoslavia and the Museum of Applied Art in Belgrade. From 1997 to 2006, the event included a large exhibition, awards and recognitions, a series of lectures, workshops and conferences and thus gained a high national and regional reputation.
"The restart is the result of the need to monitor and evaluate theater production, artistic and curatorial practices in the field of stage design and stage space in Serbia and the region," concludes the statement of Zeta House.
