Karanović: We have no or very weak literary criticism, the main problem is the lack of good editors...

"I can say that with the advent of the Internet and social networks, we lost something, but also gained something, because now when you want a text to reach a wider audience, just publish it on the Internet or social networks," Karanović said.

At the 52nd Ratković poetry evenings in Bijelo Polje, in the traditional "Coffee with a writer" meeting, the writer and editor of the "Enclave" publishing house Zvonko Karanović spoke today about the role of literature in contemporary society, editorial work, young writers and literary criticism.

He published ten books of poetry, three novels and was translated into several languages.

Speaking about criticism, which is the most difficult part of literature, Karanović explained that a literary critic must decipher a book, that he knows a lot and that he has read a lot, that he is familiar with the socio-political situation, but also with the film, because there are more and more literary works that refer to the reality in which we live.

"Literary criticism is a terribly difficult literary discipline, and because of this, an increasing number of people give up on it. We don't have, or we have very weak, literary criticism. The main problem is the lack of good editors, as well as literary critics," he said, stating that interest in literature still has.

Young people today, the writer pointed out, want to express themselves, write, without looking back at circulations.

"Many young people want to shorten the path of affirmation, while this was not the case before. I can say that with the advent of the Internet and social networks, we have lost something but also gained something, because now when you want a text to reach a wider audience, just publish it on the Internet or social networks," said Karanović.

Speaking about the editorial office, he pointed out that the level of literary production would improve if they had a stronger selection of editors and if everyone worked professionally.

Today, the program "Between Man and Sky" dedicated to Rist Ratković's closest relative, Ljupčet Ratković, was held, which was discussed by the director of JU Ratković's poetry evening, Kemal Music, and the manager of the National Library in Bijelo Polje, Edin Smailović.

"Ljupče was a friend of Ratković's poetry evenings and every year he was at the event, however, last year Ljupče, unfortunately, passed away. We wanted to repay him with one program, which we called "Between Man and Heaven". Lupče Ratković was a distinguished Belgrade lawyer, a man with a special sensibility for art, for literature, often spoke at Ratković's poetry evenings and participated in numerous programs," said Music, explaining that he was not from the world of literature, but that he knew how to value live poetry.

As part of Ratković's evenings of poetry, a round table on the topic "Contemporary literature and the reader" will be held today at 16 p.m., in which a large number of writers from Montenegro and the surrounding area will participate, and at 18 p.m. a promotion of selected works by Avdo Međedović is planned, under the name "You should be collecting lonja",

In the continuation of the program, the second International Poetry Evening "There it is, Lim flows by the sea" will be held.
