The Museum of Contemporary Art will contribute to the overall quality of the Montenegrin art scene, said Zdravko Delibašić, vice dean for teaching at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cetinje.
That institution, as he said, is the main key to the subsequent improvement and work of artists, and it is also very important for society, because it is an integral part of culture.
He reminded, as stated in the press release PR Center, that the initiative to launch the Museum of Contemporary Art had existed for six or seven years before, and was initiated by the former director of the Contemporary Art Center, Nenad Šoškić.
"These days, the issue has become relevant again. We are the only one in the region that still does not have an adequate Museum of Contemporary Art. Some museums of contemporary art in the region are already celebrating big anniversaries," Delibašić said in an interview for the PR Center.
He said that the Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade was formed in 1964, and that the museum in Novi Sad was formed a year later.
"So we have countries that have more museums of contemporary art, but the picture here is that we still don't have a museum that represents dominantly contemporary artistic expressions", said Delibašić.
He assessed, as they state, that the existence of the Museum of Contemporary Art is very important for students from the Faculty of Fine Arts.
"At the Faculty of Fine Arts, we deal with the formal education of students, but we also rely on the later participation of all educational institutions, especially cultural and fine arts, because most often in these institutions our students end up in employment or participate actively in the program," said Delibašić.
They add that in this way they contribute to artistic research processes by creating the art scene itself.
So, as he says, without additional training and activities within cultural institutions, the education of young creators almost loses its value.
He pointed out that he hopes that the Museum of Contemporary Art will contribute to the overall quality of the art scene.
"This institution is not only an exhibition phenomenon, but also greatly influences culture, education and is the main key to the subsequent improvement or life of an artist, and it is very important for the artistic and research process of all artists. It is also very important for society, because it is an integral part of culture." , Delibasic stated.
He believes that the biggest problem in Montenegro is the lack of adequate exhibition spaces.
"It is generally known that in Montenegro, no museum that currently exists was designed specifically for exhibition and archival needs. These are all repurposed spaces that have been conditionally adapted for exhibition needs. The Museum of Contemporary Art will not reach a modern standard just by changing its name, if it does not get adequate spatial capacities. The key to everything is to build a building, which for the first time in the history of Montenegro, should be planned and built for exhibition, archival, and artistic-research purposes," said Delibašić.
He pointed out that, due to the lack of adequate exhibition spaces, international cooperation also "suffers".
"In Montenegro, we cannot host any significant exhibition, because we do not meet certain technical conditions and standards of exhibition space capacity. That is the first condition. And all the talk about transformation has no essential sustainability if a new space is not built. That new space should influence on the quality of what we deal with through education and later what museums and centers deal with through research practices", said Delibašić.
When asked how he comments on conflicting statements in the media regarding the justification of the transformation and how culture can rise above it, Delibašić said that culture has always been on the sidelines.
"It is enough to see where the culture section is located in all media and on portals, and it will be clear to you how it is treated," said Delibašić.
He hopes that this image will change, perhaps with the construction of a new contemporary museum that will permanently unite the collections of the Contemporary Art Center in the form of permanent exhibitions, rather than periodic exhibitions that are periodically exhibited from the depot.
He believes that during the transformation of the Center into a Museum, all the experiences of competent experts who would work on the construction of development and strategic documents should be combined, so that the role of the Museum would be more justified.
"I sincerely hope that all the current disagreements will be overcome and that the Elaborate on the justification of the transformation could contribute to overcoming obstacles in order to speed up the process of forming the museum", Delibašić concluded.
