The premiere of the play "Decameron", a theatrical co-production of the Bar Cultural Center ("Bar Chronicle"), the Podgorica City Theater and the Niš National Theater, based on the dramatization by Stevan Koprivica and directed by Dejan Projkovski, was played last night on the Summer Stage of the House of Culture in Bar, it was announced. from the PR Department of the Cultural Center Bar.
"The year is 1348. The plague is ravaging Europe and in Florence, the cradle of the Renaissance, a group of young artists gathers who will resist illness and death by telling stories and enjoying life, gifted with moments of happiness in the surroundings of the Apocalypse. Seven stories from Boccaccio's Decameron are told in modern stage language "and they alternate emotions almost evenly. Humorous perception, irony and absurdity are the poetic means used by Stevan Koprivica in the dramatization, and the reactions of the audience show that the playwright knows us very well," the announcement states.
"And when you think you have a finished theatrical product, the audience is the one who makes the final judgment. There were really good and real reactions tonight. What we thought would go in a comedic tone, it did. At one point, there are certain interpretations of tragedy and loss, that was the director's intention, and the audience recognized it very well, so the laughter changed to a significant silence and a kind of catharsis, which is the purpose of the theater," said Koprivica.
"Decameron" is a combination of different genres. From farce, skit, anecdote, to tragedy and melodrama, which Koprivica says he prefers as a writer.
"All of this would not have happened if Bocač's timeless work had not given rise to creating a piece like this. This is a so-called fragmentary dramaturgy, a series of images that in the end give one general, big picture and vision against disease, fear, religion, manipulation and the attempt of a small, ordinary man to stand up and be free."
Dejan Projkovski belongs to the top of the regional directing world, whose pieces have been awarded and combine artistic and commercial. The Macedonian director points out that this theatrical production has the spirit of the place where it was created, and that at the center of the story is a man and his idea of personal freedom and choices. According to him, Boccaccio himself talks about a small man who wants to play with big themes.
"I read a text that talks about what is the proof that the existence of this civilization has meaning, and among other things it mentions the "Decameron", Dante's "Inferno", Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, Petrarch. In fact, they all gravitated around Florence and that is the Renaissance. When man became the center of the world, great things were born that are still the most important things in the history of art. This play actually celebrates man," said the director, adding that the play has the idea of celebrating life and presenting life's great contrasts, the greatest happiness and the greatest sadness.
"For more than two hours in front of a full audience, the masterful actors of the Niš and City Theaters took turns. This ensemble, generationally diverse, has a very uniform and dedicated energy," the announcement reads.
Omar Bajramspahić, an actor at the City Theater, has worked with the director several times and says that the freedom he gives the actors is something he values the most.
"He doesn't hold us back, he lets me make mistakes so that in the end we get to what he, but also what I, wanted. Tonight, we felt which moments the audience reacts to, and that gives us a sign of where to tighten up in the future. "I feel really beautiful in all his plays in which I play," said Bajramspahić.
Also playing in the play are: Miloš Pejović, Sanja Krstović, Vanja Jovićević, Dušan Kovačević, Maja Vukojević Cvetković, Pavle Popović, Una Lučić, Stefan Vuković, Lara Dragović, Evgenija Stanković, Dragana Jovanović and Dragiša Veljković.
The scenography is by Valentin Svetozarev, the music is by Goran Trajkoski, while the costumes were made by Marija Pupučevska.
The stage movement and choreography were entrusted to Tamara Vujošević Mandić, the director's assistant was Branka Knežević, and the music editor and accompanist was Renata Perazić.
The rerun of "The Decameron" is scheduled for tonight, on the Summer Stage of the Cultural Center, at 21.30:XNUMX p.m.
