International art meetings event "Lazovici Painters" opened tonight in the courtyard of the Museum in Bijelo Polje, with an exhibition of paintings by the participants of last year's event.

Over the next five days, 15 artists will show their artistic inspiration in the painter's colony, which will be held in Bistrica, and will transfer their artistic habitus to the canvas with magical strokes of the brush, where they will try to bring the rich cultural and historical heritage of Bijelo Polje and Montenegro closer to the general public.

Opening the art meetings, the President of the Municipality, Petar Smolović, wished all participants a pleasant and inspiring stay in our city.

"The city where Miroslav's gospel was written, but also the city where Simeon, Aleksije and Lazar Lazović, famous and far-known artists and educators from the 18th century, were born and spent their lives" - said the president of the Municipality of Bijelo Polje.

He pointed out that the Lazovics found a way to communicate with European trends in art in their time, while retaining traditional national values in their artistic handwriting to a certain extent. "And as a city of culture, Bijelo Polje deserves that these encounters grow and develop, which will contribute to the image and cult that belongs to our city when we talk about artistic trends," said Smolović.

As the director of the Museum Željko Raičević said, 15 artists from the country and abroad are participating in this year's five-day art meetings.

"The event was launched with the aim of promoting painting in Bijelo Polje, but also to preserve the very rich painting tradition that our city has, represented through the painting skills of the famous painting family Lazović from the end of the 18th to the middle of the 19th century. Also, by organizing this event, the Museum wants to provide full support and help to a large number of young painters from this area, who want to improve their painting skills, through socializing and working with academic painters of international rank", said Raičević.

The final exhibition from this year's International Art Meetings is planned for the organization of the sixth International Art Meetings in 2024. The organizer of the event is the JU Museum Bijelo Polje, and the patrons are

The Ministry of Culture and Media of Montenegro, through the program "Cultural Development in the North of Montenegro for 2023" and the Municipality of Bijelo Polje.

The program was led by Vesna Šćekić, and the event was enriched musically by Saška Rakonjac and Đurko Dubljević.
