The play "Deceased", directed and adapted by Egon Savin based on the text of Branislav Nušić, co-produced by the Montenegrin National Theater (CNP) and the Tivat Culture Center, was performed at the National Theater in Niš, as part of the 4th Festival of Drama and Theater Theater at the Crossroads.
After numerous guest appearances and participation in regional festivals, "Deceased" caused excellent reactions from the festival audience in Niš.
The selector of this year's Theater at the Crossroads and director of the Niš National Theater, theater expert Spasoje Milovanović, expressed his satisfaction with the participation of the Montenegrin National Theater.
"'The Deceased' found its place in the selection of this year's Theater at the Crossroads because, first of all, it is a really excellent play. Due to a combination of circumstances, or as theatrical fate dictates, we wanted to deal with classical literature, classical dramatic literature or prose this year, or, as in the case of Slovenia, their national myth. In this context, it was quite natural that "The Deceased" was part of this selection. We have long been talking about Nušić as our interlocutor, so his characters are alive, and that, unfortunately, Even today, nothing has changed since "The Deceased" was written in 1937. We still live some of our ordinary lives, and there are some fraudsters who manage better than us who try to be normal and decent," said Milovanović.
Journalist and theatrologist Olivera Milošević, as reported by CNP, pointed out that the interesting thing about the Niš area, i.e. the Niš audience, is that it shows very clearly when it really likes the play, and that the ovations and applause that took place meant that the audience recognized each other. in the Montenegrin play and in Nušić's story.
"It was really interesting and impressive for me to listen to Nušić in the Montenegrin language, which is so understandable and so wonderful, and to watch him in the environment of Podgorica, a bourgeois and classy Podgorica, the costumes and scenography are really excellent. This is one of the better Egons, Egon at his best, and of course when such a director works with such good actors, everything looks very harmonious. The performance was great, one team performance of the entire ensemble stands out," said Milošević.
Sašo Ognenovski, a theater critic, stated that Egon Savin created a play that opens up the problem of honor versus corruption and unscrupulousness.
"This is a director's reading and viewing that has an Italian solid structure, a play that has precise walks, precise characters, a structure that captures the audience and sends a very painful message. This is a clear picture of losing identity, losing love, a picture of a void humanity," said Ognenovski.
In addition to the CNP, the National Theater from Belgrade, the Satirical Theater Kerempuh from Zagreb, the National Theater from Niš, the National Theater of the Republic of Srpska from Banja Luka and the Koper Theater participate in the festival, which takes place from September 4 to 10. with the Slovenian Permanent Theater from Trieste.
