Great success of the play "War and Peace" directed by Boris Liješević at the Festival in Saint Petersburg

The guest performance of the play "War and Peace", based on the famous novel by Leo Nikolayevich Tolstoy, dramatized by Fedor Shili and directed by Boris Liješević, at the famous National Drama Theater of Russia "Alexandrinsky" in St. Petersburg at the 14th International Theater Festival "Alexandrinsky" aroused great interest from the audience. and this is supported by the fact that, for both performances - on September 18 and 19 (2000 seats in total), all tickets were sold out.

On Tuesday evening, the enthusiastic audience rewarded the entire ensemble with great applause, and the performance was preceded by a press conference, in which, in the presence of a large number of media, the manager of the National Theater in Belgrade Svetislav Goncić, the artistic director of Drama of the National Theater Molina Udovički, the director Boris Liješević and the artistic Director of the Alexandrinsky Theater Valery Fokin.

Director Svetislav Goncić thanked the hosts for enabling the National Theater in Belgrade to, as he emphasized, "perform our play on that historic stage", while the Director of Drama assessed that this guest appearance was the crowning glory of all previous guest appearances of this play, but also an incentive for the full dedication of the artistic team and the entire ensemble.

Director Liješević pointed out that there are not enough words to describe his emotions and happiness that "War and Peace" was invited to be performed on the stage of this magnificent theater which, in his opinion, is "one of the most important sources of modern theater".

While reminding that the work on this play, whose premiere took place last year, was agreed upon for several years, Liješević noted that during that time the novel "gained new meanings".

"No literary work expresses so many sincere and deep thoughts about love, in contrast to today's often sentimental and superficial presentation of that phenomenon", pointed out Liješević and recalled the sentence from "Evil Spirits" by Dostoevsky that "beauty (love) will save the world".
