"We reckon that you are justifiably absent. Where you are right now, dream, because life is a dream and death is not foreseen for you in this play," said the director of the Podgorica City Theater. Stevan Koprivica at the commemoration of the recently deceased director Jagoš Marković.
The city theater, where Marković took his first steps as a director, which would later take him far in the world of art and theater, and to which he returned, organized a commemorative session in the Great Hall of the Cultural and Information Center "Budo Tomović", in his honor.
Marković died on September 22 at the age of 57, and as a theater director and rare intellectual, with a bright spirit and authentic expression, he left an indelible mark on the regional theater and social scene.
In the City Theater, he worked on numerous plays that were performed and awarded throughout the region, among which stand out "The Three Musketeers", "Filomena Marturano", "Lucretia and the Servant", "The Wizard of Oz", "The Snow Queen"...
In addition to his work as a director, Jagoš Marković was also the head of the City Theater Council, and he was also the winner of the "Vasilije Ivanovič Šćućkin" award.
In addition to his family, many colleagues, friends and associates said goodbye to him, who will remember Marković fondly.
Those present had the opportunity to see on the big screen selected clips from the director's life, videos and photos from performances, as well as some of his wise statements and reflections on life and circumstances.
"I'm thinking about where to find a good repairman for your Yamaha," Koprivica continued his speech with this joke, with the smiles of those present.
And indeed, in the world in which he worked and created, which he created, there is no death for him.
At the commemoration, the former director of the City Theater addressed those present Vanja Popović, who spoke about her deceased friend with sadness in her voice and great pain.
"Your family is here, the scene is here, the actor is there, your collaborators are here, but you are not here, Jagoše", Popović began her presentation with these poignant words.
"You used to make us happy, every time you came to Podgorica meant joy for those who will work with you. Everyone was rejoicing, it seems to me that the walls were rejoicing... Today, you are causing us sadness and we cannot accept that," added Popović.
"Is it fair, Jagoš, that I should address you, at this age, on this occasion? Shouldn't it have been the other way around?", says the visibly shaken former director.
She recalled that on June 22, 1966, in Njegoševa, in Podgorica, Bosa Moma gave birth to a son, Jagoš, and that it was a great joy.
"And on the twenty-second of September you left us forever. You didn't die, you fell asleep. Reassure us that it is true because we cannot accept it," continued Popović.
"He is the theater and everything that makes up the theater. In the 19th and 20th centuries, in our region, there was no better director," Popović concludes poignantly.
In addition to Popović, the former director of the Tivat Culture Center addressed the audience Milena Radojevic.
"I met Jagoš for the first time outside of his plays in 2000 at the premiere of the play 'Bokeški D minor' in the Belgrade Studio", said Radojević.
"He threw himself into my arms and said that he had never seen anything like that in his life. 'I have to work with you in Tivat, on the Mediterranean', and that's how our Tivat story with Jagoš Marković began", added the former director, and added that Tivat is honored to have found such a director's magician and out-of-the-box artist in that city a way to express his directorial skills.
"As a tribute to Jagos, Tivat should enable three of his plays, which are currently on the repertoire in the city, to take place within the November days of culture and in this way to thank this great man for finding inspiration in our small Culture Center", she said. is Radojević.
The current director of the Tivat Culture Center also spoke about Marković. Goran Božović.
"In the short time of our acquaintance, we managed to build a sincere relationship, full of trust and support", said Božović.
"He bequeathed to us iconic works such as 'Hasanaginica' and 'Bald Singer'. He left a part of his genius and we will carefully nurture and preserve it," concluded Božović.
