We propose that within the National Museum of Montenegro, a permanent exhibit dedicated to Queen Jelena of Savoy be made, for which the Italian Embassy would make available all the materials that were presented at earlier exhibitions, said the Ambassador of Italy to Montenegro, Andreana Marcela.
The Ministry of Culture and Media (MKM) announced that Minister Tamara Vujović met with Marcelo.
The press release states that the meeting concluded that "by defining and signing the Executive Program of Cooperation between Montenegro and Italy, joint activities and the implementation of programs and projects in all areas of culture should be more precisely determined, because the previous cooperation, defined by the previously signed Agreement between the two countries, has not lived up to its full potential".
The MKM said that Vujović emphasized the importance of representing Montenegro at the 60th International Exhibition of Contemporary Art in Venice in 2024, stressing the need for the support of the Italian Embassy and the Italian Ministry, so that Montenegro can provide exhibition space in the Arsenal, where it exhibits the largest number of countries in the world.
"For next year, better conditions have been provided for the presentation of our contemporary creativity at this reference event, but we continue with further activities so that Montenegro can fully use all the benefits that the Biennale of Contemporary Art offers for presentation to the world," said Vujović.
The MKM said that Vujović and Marsela discussed the possibilities of residency for artists from both countries, and the minister invited artists from Italy to stay in the creative hubs that Montenegro has.
"Our hubs can offer a lot to the regional exchange of artists," said Vujović.
The ambassador stated that she sees Queen Jelena of Savoy as an important point of connection between our cultures and presented exhibitions dedicated to her, which the Embassy had previously realized in cooperation with the Ministry and cultural institutions of Montenegro.
"We propose that within the National Museum of Montenegro, a permanent exhibit dedicated to Queen Jelena be created, for which the Embassy would make available all the materials that were presented at earlier exhibitions," the ambassador pointed out.
The announcement adds that Vujović accepted the proposal and stated that the department she manages, in cooperation with the management of the National Museum of Montenegro, should consider all possibilities so that this idea could be realized.
"In this light, Minister Vujović stated that the legacy of Bokelje in Trieste is also very important for the Ministry of Culture and Media, and that there is an interest in further researching and presenting it in Montenegro and Italy," says the statement of the Ministry of Culture and Media.
Cooperation with the Research Council of Italy CNR, which was previously established and within which important cultural heritage research projects in Montenegro were financed, was also discussed.
"The support of an institution of this type is important for us, bearing in mind the limited capacities of Montenegro in this area, so I suggest that in direct communication with the Italian side we renew this agreement as soon as possible and continue with joint activities," stated Vujović.
The meeting also discussed further cooperation with the publishing house Bessa Editrice, and interest was expressed in continuing and improving the cooperation so that as many Montenegrin authors as possible would be translated into Italian and presented at fairs outside the borders of Montenegro.
"Ambassador Marcela expressed satisfaction with the cooperation so far and supported further steps in strengthening cultural ties," said the MKM.
She emphasized that Italy gladly accepts all proposals for the implementation of new projects that would bring new cultural and artistic values to both countries.
"Italy is available for all ideas that will further deepen the friendship between our countries," Marcela concluded.
