"Goran, in the figurative sense, is someone who is tall and strong, someone who is capable and stable, someone you can rely on at any time. My friend Goran Bulajić has lived up to his name both in life and in the theater," said the actor. Mirko Vlahovic.
About this and that Goran, the Nikšić Theater filmed the film "Memory of Goran", and his friends and colleagues said what it was like to work, but also hang out, with the prominent Montenegrin director and playwright Goran Bulajić, who died in November last year.
The Nikšić Theater wanted to pay back at least a little with a film, as well as evenings dedicated to Bulajić and his work, to the man who, as Janko Jelić, artistic director of the theater and screenwriter of the film, said, left behind a rich legacy and made a great contribution to the continuity of theater life in in the town under Trebjes, which in February marked 140 years since the first performance in Nikšić.
"It was a special honor these few weeks to deal with Goran's work, that wonderful and noble legacy that I read and watched, through the pages or strips of the film. It was a special pleasure and a special honor and privilege to know Goran and to work with him at least a little. Then you also understand that you don't get to know a person only while he is there, with you, but we are only getting to know him now. Through that acquaintance, I asked myself if I had the right to call myself Goran's friend. If we look superficially - in terms of age it is difficult, in terms of what has been done it is also difficult, in terms of social reputation, recognition, recognition, very difficult. However, due to his breadth, love, and what he provided to me and to all of us, I gained that freedom and then I can say - yes, I was Goran's friend. Or my Goran," Jelic said.
According to him, great people make others great. So did Bulajić. Thanks to him, Jelić started making movies.
"The film had no ambition to encompass the great, broad, wonderful work he left behind, that great legacy, because if they were to deal with it, it would take us months, not a few weeks, to prepare it. It had no intention of being a monument, a memory that should encourage us to sorrow, pain, to awareness of transience. The opposite of that. It is a reminder of a great life that continues, of a man who in every sense justified the line of the folk song: You don't cry for a hero," said Jelić.
And the movie started - full of emotions, but not excessive ones, because Goran didn't like anything that exceeded the measure. Goran's friends talked about what a privilege it was to be a part of his life and to create together with him.
It is unthinkable, said the actor Dobrilo Boban Čvorović, to mention the cultural scene of the city without Goran. How unimaginable it was, Nebojša Ćićo Vulanović recalled, in the years when some citizens of that great Yugoslavia didn't even know about abstract theater, doing Godao. And Goran did it with a team of actors, among whom was Vulanović, who won awards at many festivals.
"He has now found Godot," Vulanović said.
If there is an eternal theater, Bulajić must, said Vlahović, make some new divisions with his friends who left before him.
"I, as his comrade, friend and collaborator, can only tell him to light a candle for me up there in the middle of the universe," said Vlahović.
Kaća Čelan, an artist who is better known abroad than in this region, who has done numerous plays, a large number of dramatic texts, and who lives and works in California, wrote a letter for her school friend.
“You were my best friend. You were my Montenegro. You were one of the most beautiful, humane parts of my Yugoslavia", said Čelan and added that only King Nikola could match his devotion to his daughters.
Actor Mihailo Perošević reminded that the Drama Studio had 17 premieres in the ten years that Bulajić managed them, and Goran directed 11.
"Goran, with the Drama Studio, not only maintained theater life in the city for ten years, but also changed the perception of theater. In those years, we changed the taste of the audience," said Perošević.
Actor Vojo Krivokapić talked about Bulajić's creativity, willingness to help everyone, calmness and uniqueness.
"He knew how to create a nice atmosphere, without tension, and he was always the one who would calm down with a smile, voice, tone, not only in work, but also in life," Krivokapić said.
And Bulajić was special, according to the playwright and screenwriter Stevan Koprivica, he was also special according to the relationship he had with the writer and with the literary model.
"Goran belonged to the galaxy of Montenegrin creators who were quietly active - in constant activity, but somehow always under the main radar. That's why his success and results were more significant. He was not someone who was under the full lights of the stage, but through work and dedication in Nikšić, and in Montenegro, won a high position in the history of Montenegrin and regional theater," Koprivica pointed out.
Bulajić took part in the renovation of the Nikšić Theater, whose production he enriched with nine productions. The last play he did, and he put his signature on more than 70 pieces, was "National Deputy", in which the young Stevan Vuković acted.
"He managed everything so unobtrusively, without any pretensions to be something. He is an indicator that it is possible and that we as a society can live in such a way... He is a denial of the fact that the theater is fleeting, that it all passes and that there is no more. Such people, such creators do not forget themselves", said Vuković.
And Bulajić is not forgotten by the children who grew up in his neighborhood and who are now adults.
"I assigned him the role of guardian of the most beautiful memories from the most carefree part of my life, from my childhood," said Marko Savić.
It remains for the generations to come to preserve the legacy of Goran Bulajić because he left a lot to preserve, remember and last.
The screening of the film was attended by Goran Bulajić's family, his daughters, brother and daughter-in-law, friends, admirers of him and his work, as well as the presidents of the Nikšić Municipality and Municipal Assembly, Marko Kovačević and Nemanja Vuković.
After the film, the TV movie "The Fork is Held in the Left Hand" was shown, which Bulajić directed and was particularly proud of, while tonight the play "People's Representative" will be performed, which he adapted and directed based on the text of Branislav Nušić.
Bulajić was synonymous with theater and with his departure the theater world of Nikšić, Montenegro and the region lost a lot.
He directed about 70 plays in the theaters of Montenegro, Serbia, Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
On the Television of Montenegro, he directed TV-dramas: "The Baptist", "The fork is held in the left hand", "Three stories", "At the lawyer's", "Father", "Good night", the documentary drama series "Glasonoše", The TV movie "Ad honorem" and the series "Poetic Theater CNP". He is the author of the dramatic text "Judgment" and the co-author of the play "Piljuj me, grešnogo, ogsode", as well as numerous texts in the field of theatrics and scripts that marked significant historical events. He is the recipient of several professional and social awards.
He worked as the manager of the Drama Studio in Nikšić, was responsible editor of the Artistic Program of the Television of Montenegro, director of the Children's Theater in Podgorica, president of the Board of Directors of RTCG, lecturer at the Faculty of Philosophy, director of the Kotor Children's Theater Festival, artistic director of the International Festival of Actors in Nikšić . Since 1999, he has been professionally engaged as a playwright in the Montenegrin National Theater.
Theater was his way of life, and he made an effort to play his life and professional role impressively, proudly and with dignity. He didn't think that theater could change the world, but he was sure that it could influence everyone who lives the theater - whether on stage, behind the scenes, or in the audience.
