The Royal Zetski Dom Theater has announced that until the change of artistic director Janko Jelic, it is terminating its cooperation with the Nikšić Theater.
"Given the discriminatory attitude of the artistic director of the Nikšić Theater, Janko Jelić, regarding the hosting of the play 'Exhibition of Women', but also our obligation as a theater to focus on topics that concern our society, we express surprise and regret at the statement of the mentioned gentleman regarding the position and rights of women in Montenegrin society. In view of the above, for ethical reasons we are forced to express our position and cancel future activities concerning the cooperation between the Royal Theater 'Zetski dom' and the Nikšić Theater until the moment of the change of the artistic director," reads the statement signed by the director of the Royal Theater "Zetski dom" Luka Radović.
Jelić announced that the topic of women's disenfranchisement is "worn out" for him, and that he thinks that "women discriminate." He said this in an email sent to the Bunt Independent Theater Stage, which is performing the play "Exhibition of Women".
However, the Municipality of Nikšić will facilitate the performance of the play IzloŽena in the Nikšić Theater and be the sponsor of that event, announced the president of that local government, Marko Kovačević.
