A new reading of "Mirandolina" as an ode to freedom and self-awareness

A new production of the Tivat Culture Center, the theatrical play "Mirandolina", based on the motifs Karl Goldoni i Peter Turinia directed and adapted Tatjana Mandic Rigonat, premiered the night before last at the Tivat Summer Stage.

"Innkeeper Mirandolina" is one of the most famous female characters in theater history, and this latest contemporary reading of this classic play from the middle of the 18th century is a kind of theatrical ode to the freedom, independence and self-awareness of a woman who fights for her equal 'place under the sun'. The play, which is certainly not for family viewing due to, at times, lascivious language and scenes, and on that level itself symbolically searches for an "acceptable" level of provocation on the stage, as an illustration of everything that has been characterized for centuries by the merciless struggle of the sexes and the positioning of women in a society governed by greed, low instincts and money.

The play features: Katarina Marković (Mirandolina), Vučić Perović (Knight of Rippafratt), Lazar Dragojevic (Fabrizio), Goran Slavić (Marquis di Albafiorita), Goran Vujović (Count di Forlinpopoli), Lara Dragovic (Dejanira) and Julija Milačić Petrović Njegoš (Ortensia).

After the premiere, Goran Božović, the director of the Tivat Culture Center said that he was satisfied, and that they had fulfilled their goal of having another successful independent production.

"It is important for us to have that continuity and tonight we confirmed that we are on the right track and that for the second year in a row we have an extraordinary festival show with Mediterranean charm that will be performed for a long time. I think that everyone, both the author's team and the actors, justified the trust that was placed in them and did an outstanding job," Božović assessed.

Director Tatjana Mandić Rigonat pointed out that she had a wonderful process of working with the cast and that they enjoyed doing the play.

"The play is based on the motifs of Goldoni's famous tavern Mirandolina and the adaptation made by Petar Turini in the second half of the 20th century, which changed certain aspects of the comedy by placing the main character in the context of capitalist relations, examining the relations between love and money. Where Turini left off, I continued to develop the story and treated the original with as much freedom as he treated Goldoni. With this performance, I celebrate the creative freedom of a woman, her primordial strength and her desire for independence and freedom, and where Turini stopped Mirandolina, there I continued to fantasize and gave a completely different framework", explains Mandić Rigonat.

The main actress Katarina Marković after the premiere, she said that she was satisfied, that the actors on stage enjoyed themselves, but that by the reaction it can be said that the audience also enjoyed watching CZK's new play Tivat.

"Mirandolina is an age-old symbol of a free-minded, free, own woman - a man's woman. And that's the sentence I'm saying. I think it is valuable here that we told a story that is both contemporary and timeless, and it was both challenging and wonderful for me to be in the role of such a woman," said Marković.

The dramatic and linguistic adaptation of the text and the choice of music are signed by the director Tatjana Mandić Rigonat, the costume designer Stefan Savkovic, scenography Vesna Popović. She is a composer Irena Dragović, choreographer Slavka Nelevic, while she is in charge of the video Jelena Tvrdišić. The design of the light is signature Radomir Stamenković, and a photo Dusko Miljanic.

The rerun of "Mirandoline" was announced for last night on the summer stage in Tivat, in the official competition for the awards of this year's International Festival of Mediterranean Theater "Purgatorija".

Tonight "Zidanje Skarda"

The dance performance "Zidanje Skadra" produced by the Bitef Theater from Belgrade and the "Ćirilica" Festival from Budva will be performed tonight at the Summer Stage in Tivat, starting at 21.30:XNUMX p.m. as part of the "Purgatorija" Mediterranean Theater Festival.

"The biggest conflict in 'Zidanje Shkodra', although it is never directly actualized in the folk song, is the one between Vila and young Gojkovica. It is a conflict of epic proportions between the all-demanding position and the all-giving position, the all-powerful god and the sacrificial son, the endless heavens and the supple, fertile earth that sacrifices itself unconditionally and over and over again. In relation to that conflict, all other actors are pawns on the game board. Suddenly, all small and discreet strategies, hiding, whispering, silence, become exposed, visible and human. And civilization, law, and order were built on that, not only on the grand gestures of raising the city. The weight of this dance piece is reflected in relationships of trust, love, hope, and suffering because of them", said the creative team of this dance performance.

In the play "Zidanje Skadra" the following are performing: Tamara Pjević, Jakša Filipovac, Ivana-Savić Jaćić, Milica Jević-Drndarević, Branko Mitrović, Jovana Grujić, Dejan Bošković and Katarina Anić.

The concept and choreography are by Miloš Isailović, dramaturgy by Bojan Đorđev, music by Irena Popović Dragović, scenography by Andreja Rondović and Jovana Višnjić. Lighting design was done by Dragan Đurković, costumes by Selena Orb and Anđela Bajagić (assistant), while photography and graphic design was done by Slavica Dolašević.
