Music is the soul of the universe, it gives wings to imagination and meaning to life. With Platon's quote, the President of Tivat Municipality Željko Komnemović congratulated the Jubilee - the 60th anniversary of the existence and work of the Tivat Music School to that educational institution, at a ceremony held last night in the concert hall of the Tivat Music School.
The celebration was attended, among others, by Serbian Consul Mićo Rogović, Croatian Ambassador Veselko Grubišić, President of the Tivat Municipality Assembly Miljan Marković, as well as directors of public institutions, representatives of local administration, parents and students.
Along with a great performance by the school orchestra under the baton of Professor Martina Vuksanović, a documentary dedicated to the school was premiered on this occasion. The film by author Dušan Vuleković shows the beginnings, performances, but also difficult moments in the history of the Tivat Music School after the devastating earthquake in 1979, playing under tents, then the old barracks in Kalimanje, where a large number of quality musicians, today also professors, were born.
The film shows the great work and commitment of this collective crowned with numerous awards and recognitions, both then and today. The mayor of Tivat, Željko Komnenović, congratulated the administration, employees and students of the Music School on this important date. He emphasized that Tivat is celebrating a number of important jubilees in 2024.
"This summer we celebrated 115 years of the Tivat Music and Educational Society, in a few days we are celebrating 110 years of Arsenal Football Club, and a special gem is the celebration of 60 years of the Tivat Music School." The years pass like waves in the Bay of Kotor, successes continue, and we remember the beginnings of the Music School, back in 1891, from the orchestra of Antun Žeželić, who is said to have brought the first violin to Tivat and enchanted it. Sources say that in those years there were six boys' schools in Tivat, and one music school, and that the Municipality of Tivat experienced its first and only bankruptcy in those years because the entire budget was given for the purchase of instruments from a prestigious Czech company for the newly founded City Music. We also remember the period of years when education was systematized after the Second World War. We must especially remember the married couple Brandmajer, who wove themselves through this school and their son Đanko, who won one of the first Golden Liras, back in the XNUMXs," said Komnenović.
He emphasized that in addition to tradition, culture and success, continuity is also very important, and the Music School cultivates exactly that.
"Plato somewhere said that music is the soul of the universe, it gives wings to the imagination and meaning to life. This school really gives meaning to Tivat, to everything that Tivat is and will be," Komnenović said.
The director of the Tivat Music School, Professor Zorana Jovanović, said that the 60th anniversary of that institution "is not just a jubilee, but an anthem of perseverance, love and harmony."
"Our school is not just a place where notes and chords are learned; it is like an ancient instrument, whose tones resonate with the soul of Tivat. Each generation has added its own unique chord to that melody, turning it into a symphony that lives through time – a symphony of culture, art and community. Think of our school as an old piano, full of warm memories. Every scratch on the wood tells the story of a former student, every key carries the memory of the first uncertain note, and every new melody promises a future filled with beauty and inspiration. That piano is the heart of our school - its tones depict all those who have been part of our story over the years," said Jovanović, adding that the Tivat Music School has become synonymous with excellence and dedication throughout its decades of work.
"Our students and professors, like true musical virtuosos, have spread the name of the school far beyond the borders of the city and the country, bringing awards and recognitions that testify to talent, effort and love for art. We dedicate this jubilee to everyone who is part of this great story - from professors, who selflessly share their knowledge, to parents, who are our faithful allies, and of course, students, who are the heart and soul of everything we do," Jovanović stressed.
She reminded that the local Music School was and remains one of the pillars of the cultural life of the city over the past decades, a nursery of many talents, a host of numerous concerts and a participant in a series of activities in cooperation with other institutions that culturally enriched the city.
"The doors of this school are always open to everyone who wants to feel the magic of music, because music is a universal language that unites us all. As we step towards the future, our mission remains clear - to be a beacon of culture, a place where notes tell stories and melodies shape generations," concluded Jovanović.
