"And then we arrived in Auschwitz," are words that inspire fear and shake to the core at the thought of tragic fates. They were uttered in the monodrama "13419: The Need for Return" by the Italian actor Gaspare del Vecchio. The character he played was not fictional, he was very real and his name was Cesare Terracina. He died in Auschwitz on January 27, 1945.
On the occasion of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the Embassy of Italy in Montenegro, in cooperation with the KIC "Budo Tomović", organized a screening of a monodrama by the famous Italian artist Roberto Atias. "13419: The Need for Return" premiered tonight at the Dodesta Hall in Podgorica.
After the performance, the young actor Del Vecchio, who had a big task ahead of him, responded to questions from the media and said that, given the time difference, it was very difficult and challenging to somehow identify with the theme and character.
"I had to find strength within myself. It's not about physical strength, nor emotional strength, but strength as a value that connects me with that character," he emphasized, adding that he had to find within himself what connects him with Terračina.
He says that he was analyzing what Cesare was saying.
"That's what flows like a river of feelings in the text. Sometimes I wondered if the character really feels what he says, or if he feels one thing and says another," the actor explains.
He emphasized that it wasn't pressure that he felt, but responsibility for what happened and how he would present it.
"Although responsibility implies great effort and in some ways some suffering, I certainly think we should fight bravely, to be responsible for what we take on," says Del Vecchio.
