Tivat has stood shoulder to shoulder with other major theater centers in the region, it was heard yesterday during a meeting of the President of the Municipality of Tivat. Željko Komnenović with members of the Board of Directors of the Regional Union of Theatres - RUTA festival, which will be held in Tivat from April 7th to 12th.
"We are still telling the decades-long story of the theater, 'Purgatorija' and Tivat, but in a different way, precisely thanks to the initiative for the Tivat Cultural Center to become part of RUTE," said Komnenović, emphasizing his satisfaction that the Tivat Cultural Center, as an equal member, contributes to the large regional theater family.
In a conversation with the guests, he confirmed that the Municipality of Tivat allocates significant funds year after year for the work of the Cultural Center and for culture in general, which has positioned Tivat as a recognizable theater center of Montenegro.

"The Tivat Cultural Center is not a theater, but it is part of RUTA because of its results," said the director of the Belgrade Drama Theater, the creator, founder and authorized representative of the RUTA festival, director Jug Radivojevic.
He presented the festival concept, which implies that six selected plays from six countries in the region (Croatia, Slovenia, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro) are performed in six cities/theaters, members of RUTE, and that this festival has become the epicenter of cultural events.
"It is an honor and a privilege for us to stand shoulder to shoulder with the best theaters in the region. This shows that the Cultural Center is not lagging behind in production," emphasized the director of the Tivat Cultural Center. Goran Božović.
He said that the Tivat audience had the opportunity to see exceptional theater plays, and the Cultural Center had the opportunity to present works from its own production to audiences throughout the region.
Members of the RUTA Festival Board of Directors shared plans for the future with the Mayor, which include two co-productions, one announced for the summer of 2025, and the other, in which all six festival members will participate, for 2026.
The meeting in the office of the mayor was also attended by a member of the Board of Directors from Montenegro, actor Dusan Kovačević, director of Chamber Theatre 55 Sarajevo, member of the Board of Directors from Bosnia and Herzegovina, playwright Vedran Fajković, director of the Drama Theatre Skopje, actor Robert Veljanovski, Board member from North Macedonia, actress Sofia Kunovska, Simona Beautiful from the Ljubljana City Theatre, operational director of BDP and secretary of RUTE, producer Srdjan Obrenovic and Municipal Secretary for Social Affairs Olivera Misković Vidojević.
The repertoire of the ROUTES Tivat 2025 includes the following performances: “Every Bird to Its Flock” (BDP, Serbia), “Hedda Gabler” (Drama Theatre Skopje, North Macedonia), “Three Million Minutes” (Mestno gledališče Ljubljana, Slovenia), “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf” (Ulysses Theatre Zagreb, Croatia), “Complete Strangers” (Kamerni teatar 55 Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina) and “Mirandolina” (Cultural Centre Tivat, Montenegro).
