Premiere of the play “Understand me in time” Theodore Kip will be held today in Podgorica, in the Great Hall of the Cultural and Information Center "Budo Tomović", at 20 p.m.
The play deals with the topic of peer violence among elementary school students, and is intended for children over 11 years of age, but also for adults, and primarily for pedagogues, psychologists, sociologists, teachers, educators, guardians and parents, says the author team.
The theatrical work was based on a drama that won an award at the Kotor Theater Festival and the regional competition "From a Young Age".
"To better understand, it is important to first awaken the child within you... Remember what you needed at their age. It is not easy to talk about peer violence, and sometimes it is enough to just listen. We grew up in other times, our children do not have that luxury. Sometimes everyone needs to be understood, and sometimes we are not ready to provide that to the closest and most vulnerable among us... Some topics are difficult to unlock with children, come and talk," are just some of the many messages the play sends.
The producer of the play is Teodora Kipa, and the production assistant is Ksenija Despot. The play features young and successful Montenegrin actors: Marija Đurić, Masa Božović, Miloš Kasćelan i Ognjen Sekulic, who are directing and writing the play. They will be joined by a special guest - a ten-year-old Ines Vratnica.
"The play 'Understand Me in Time' is touching and emotional, and that is its most important characteristic. It follows the world of a twelve-year-old boy who is hated and abused by his classmates because he is different from them - he is an excellent student, withdrawn and less 'cool'. Cyberbullying, belittling and reproach intensifies over time, while the boy, powerless, suppresses anger and injustice as best he can. His anxiety lasts a long time and his defense mechanism leads him to a strange act of revenge, which ends up in a child psychiatric hospital," the plot description states.
This theater project was supported by the Ministry of Culture and Media in the competition for cultural and artistic creativity in 2024, and is being produced by ŽIŽArt doo, a platform that has been engaged in engaged art for the past three years and whose founder is Teodora Kipa. The project partners are the non-governmental organization “Bunt” and Pigmalion doo
Tickets, priced at seven euros for adults and five for children, can be purchased in Podgorica, at the Cultural Events Center (CKZ) Ribnica.
