Bojan Šumonja's exhibition in Podgorica

Exhibition “Phantom Bouquet” by renowned contemporary artist Bojana Šumonje, will be opened today in Podgorica, at 20 p.m. The curator of the exhibition, organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro, is Natalija Djuranovic, The exhibition will be held at the Art Pavilion of the Association of Fine Artists of Montenegro, and admission is free.

In the text accompanying the exhibition, Đuranović emphasizes that the beauty in Bojan Šumonja's painting lies in the creative act, in the unpredictability of the artistic act that is focused on the internal dynamics of fascination with the world of sensations, and in creative freedom and sensuality.

"Every painting carries with it an element of surprise, which makes it alive, pulsating, and in that sense, the excitement does not come from the created form, but from creative exploration, in which the artist allows the painting to lead him to the final result - the painting as a finished product," Đuranović wrote.

Through the precision of his drawings and carefully conceived light-shadow relationships, Šumonja creates works of distinct expressiveness. His analytical approach does not exclude spontaneity; on the contrary, as the MSUCG press release points out, he carefully structures surfaces, as if “scanning” nature, while allowing the material to speak for itself through the process of creation.

Bojan Šumonja was born in 1960 in Pula. He graduated from the Venetian Academy of Fine Arts. His artistic expression develops within the neo-expressionist aesthetic, with a strong tendency towards reinterpreting traditional motifs, mythological references and influences from the world of comics and film. He has exhibited in more than 300 group and solo exhibitions across Europe and the world, and his works are in numerous important collections and institutions.

He has won several awards for his work, including Grand Prix 7, the Zagreb Painting Biennial. He lives and works in Pula, where he is also the co-founder and artistic director of the Poola Gallery.
