Dr Maria Sarap has been appointed as the new artistic director of the Montenegrin National Theatre, the Government decided at today's session.
She was nominated for this position by the Ministry of Culture and Media, and the Decision on Appointment states that "Article 47, paragraph 3 of the Law on Culture stipulates that an artist of high reputation or a cultural expert of high reputation shall be appointed as the artistic director of a public institution founded by the state."
"Given the cited provisions of the regulations and the fact that the appointed doctor of cultural sciences, as well as the fact that she has attached a biography with relevant data, confirming significant results in the field of activity, in accordance with Article 47, paragraph 1 and paragraph 3 of the Law on Culture, we propose to the Government of Montenegro the appointment of Dr. Marija Sarap as the artistic director of the Public Institution Montenegrin National Theatre," the explanation stated.
The Government of Montenegro, considering numerous personnel issues, today adopted the first Decision on the termination of the duties of the Director General of the Directorate for the Development of Creative Industries at the Ministry of Culture and Media, Dr. Marija Sarap. Subsequently, a Decision was adopted on her appointment to the leading position of the Montenegrin National Theatre.
Playwright, screenwriter, journalist, organizer of cultural events, Sarap spent a large part of her life and work in Herceg Novi and Boka Bay. She earned a PhD in cultural studies at the Cyril and Methodius University, Skopje, at the Institute of Macedonian Literature, and worked at the Public Institution KC “Nikola Đurković” Kotor as the head of the program sector….
She is the author of the book The Islamic Heritage of Herceg Novi, which was created through cooperation with the Islamic Community in Montenegro and the Fund for the Protection and Exercise of Minority Rights of Montenegro.
