The play "Independence" was written in 1984 and is one of the earlier, but significant works of American playwright Lee Blessing.
"The story takes place in the small town of Independence, Iowa, and follows the lives of a mother and her three daughters. Through their complex and tense relationships, Blessing explores themes of family conflict, generational differences, personal freedom, and the price of independence. Each daughter tries to find her own path to independence in her own way, while her mother's domination and emotional manipulation hold them back. Although it is an intimate drama with a small number of characters and a simple plot, the work carries a strong emotional charge. The author shows how the fight for independence - whether familial, personal, or social - always comes with certain sacrifices and conflicts," the description in the press release states.
Lee Blessing became famous as an American playwright whose plays were performed throughout the United States and abroad.
"His plays often explore human relationships, moral dilemmas, and socio-political conflicts. He is special in that he combines serious themes with humor and irony, while his plays usually have a simple stage setting and strong dialogic content," FUNK reminds.
