The traditional, 47th Montenegrin Art Salon "November 13" will open on Wednesday, November 12 in Cetinje, at the Montenegrin Gallery of Art (CGU) "Miodrag Dado Đurić", at 19 p.m.
This year's theme of the Salon is "Sublations", and the selector is art theorist Loved Novakovic.
The following artists will be presenting at the Salon: Dragomir Ugren, Damir Sobota, Luka Mrkaic, Jelena Bulajic, Vladimir Novak, Aleksandra Aranitovic, Aleksandar Ostojic, Branislav Nikolic, David Husic, Mihael Klanjcic, Nikola Pavlicevic, Jelena Pavicevic Markovic. Tributes have also been announced that bring attention back to two artists, namely the Croatian abstract painter Julius Knifer (1924-2004) and writer, publicist and journalist from Cetinje Miodrag Vuković (1947-2013).
The jury will award three equal prizes and the Salon's grand prix, and is composed of: an art historian and the president of the jury Ljiljana Karadzic, and a visual artist Dino Karailo and art theorist Milovan Novakovic.
The Mayor of the Royal Capital of Cetinje will speak at the opening ceremony of the Salon. Nikola Đurašković, selector Novaković, and the president of the jury will explain the awards.
The term "sublation", which is this year's thematic framework of the Salon, represents a philosophical concept most often associated with Hegel's Sublation means the simultaneous abolition of something and its preservation, but at a higher level, during which the essence often takes on a new form.
Originally called the Cetinje Art Salon “13. November”, today it is the Montenegrin Art Salon “13 November” and is one of the longest-running and most important art festivals in Montenegro. In the former Yugoslavia, it had the status of a cultural event of special importance. Numerous famous names from the domestic, and at one time also Yugoslav, art scene have exhibited and continue to exhibit there. It is traditionally organized on the eve of the Day of the Royal Capital of Cetinje, on November 13.
The organizers of the Salon are the Royal Capital of Cetinje and the Society of Art Historians of Montenegro, co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and Media, and the partner is the National Museum of Montenegro.
