The film "OBRAZ" by Montenegrin director Nikola Vukčević won the main award at the 30th edition of the Auteur Film Festival in Rabat, Morocco, the Galileo production company announced today.
According to the press release, "OBRAZ" won the main prize for best film in the main competition program, the Grand Prix Hassan II, as well as the award for best actor, which went to Edon Rizvanoli for his portrayal of the lead role, Nur Doka.
"The film's director, Vukčević, expressed his gratitude on behalf of the entire film crew, who worked on this project for eight years, which is being produced under the main sponsorship of the Film Center of Montenegro, the Croatian Audiovisual Center, the Film Center of Serbia, with funds from the RTVCG co-production competition, and with the help of CEKUM and the support of the city of Bar," reads a statement from the Galileo production company, signed by producer Milorad Radenović.
Galileo Production added that "OBRAZ" will continue its festival journey on Monday to two new addresses in the competition selections of the main programs: at another festival in Morocco (14th FICMEC – Festival International de Cinéma Nador) and in the selection of the 42nd edition of the prestigious South American festival BOGOCINE – Bogotá Film Festival in Colombia.
"As a reminder, the film OBRAZ had its world premiere in November in Cottbus, Germany, followed by participation in two A category festivals: Cairo International Film Festival (international premiere) and IFFI Goa, India (Asian premiere). So far, it has been selected at 25 international festivals, and has been awarded in the United States (San Diego International Film Festival - Audience Award), Spain, Italy, Russia, Portugal, Iraq and Montenegro. By decision of the commission of the Ministry of Culture of Montenegro, OBRAZ is the Montenegrin candidate for the Oscar award, the American Film Academy," the statement states.
They added that the film's theatrical distribution is expected during the upcoming winter.
