Six award-winning regional films, including successful works by Montenegrin directors, will have the opportunity to be seen by audiences in the member countries of the Adriatic Region Festival Network.
This year, the Adriatic Region Festival Network is bringing free screenings of regional films as part of the Winter Edition, which will be held from January 22 to February 5. Thus, audiences in Montenegro, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Slovenia and North Macedonia can watch a selection of award-winning regional films for free - in cinemas and online, via the internet.
The repertoire includes: “Family Therapy” Sonja Prosenc, "Fiume o morte!" Igor Bezinović, "After the summer" Danis Tanović, "Mother Mara" Mirjane Karanović, as well as two Montenegrin films, namely: "Alive and Healthy" Ivan Marinović "Planet 7693" Gojko Berkuljan.
The program begins on January 22nd with free cinema screenings in Herceg Novi, Belgrade, Sarajevo, Zagreb, Ljubljana and Skopje, while all films will be available online from January 23rd, via the ondemand.kinomeetingpoint.ba platform.
"As part of the program, the film "My Late Summer" directed by Oscar-winning director Danis Tanović will be screened in Herceg Novi on Thursday, January 22 at 19 p.m. in the PARK Hall. The film is a comedic drama about a young woman who comes to the island for an inheritance, but faces her own past, family secrets and identity issues," the statement says.
The popular film by prominent Montenegrin director Ivan Marinović has been described as bittersweet and witty, and as such will give a specific note to the Winter Edition program...
"'Alive and Well' is a story about a wedding that takes place despite the bride's decision to give up on marriage," is the brief announcement of the film, which brings together genres, generations, and mentalities, all through an authentic and recognizable directorial style.
"Gojko Berkuljan's 'Planeta 7693' brings a family and warm story - a film about a boy who, with the help of an unusual friend, tries to repair the broken relationships in his family," the announcement states, but we should not forget that "Planeta" is much more than that, and that Berkuljan opened a completely new chapter in Montenegrin cinema through this film.
Both films have experienced notable success since their premiere and won over audiences, both in Montenegro and throughout the region.
Among the films on the program is "Family Therapy" directed by Sonja Prosenc, a psychological drama that follows a seemingly perfect family whose illusion of stability collapses with the arrival of a young stranger.
"His presence exposes repressed fears, hidden weaknesses, and deep-rooted disruptions in family relationships," it was announced.
The Montenegrin audience was able to watch the film "Fiume o Morte!" by Igor Bezinović as part of last year's edition of the UnderhillFest International Documentary Film Festival in Podgorica.
"A docudrama about the sixteen-month occupation of Rijeka and the controversial historical figure of the Italian poet, journalist, aristocrat and military officer, a fascist Gabriel D'Annunziata, "It is told through the voices of contemporary residents of the city, who question the legacy of that period and its influence on Rijeka's identity today," states the description of the film, which tells of the occupation of Rijeka in the 20th century, but also speaks to the rise of the far right in Europe today.
"Mother Mara", directed by Mirjana Karanović, is an intimate drama about loss, grief, and the unexpected closeness between a mother and her deceased son's friend.
The winter edition of the Adriatic Region Festival Network is being implemented as a joint project of the leading film festivals in the region, namely: Herceg Novi Film Festival, Belgrade Auteur Film Festival, Sarajevo Film Festival, Ljubljana International Film Festival, Zagreb Film Festival and the Manaki Brothers Festival from North Macedonia.
"This is the fourth Winter edition of the Adriatic Region Festival Network, organized with the aim of increasing visibility, accessibility and promotion of quality contemporary regional cinematography. The Adriatic Region Festival Network program is implemented with the support of the MEDIA Sub-programme of the Creative Europe Programme," the organizers remind.
