Monodrama “Virgin”, based on the text Dušan Janković, and in performance Marta Ćeranić, will be performed at the Crvena Komuna in Petrovac on Saturday, January 17th at 20 pm.
The play explores the life of a woman who was forced to take on a male role due to social norms, revealing an intimate story of identity, strength and steadfastness, the announcement states that this is a story "that reveals to us the life and intimacy of a virgin who had to bear the heavy burden of decisions that others made for her."
"The monodrama does not only deal with the phenomenon of the virgin, but also explores the unspoken, personal and essential in a woman who had to play the role of a man. This is a story about the identity, strength and steadfastness of a female child in a certain historical period in Montenegro," the statement reads.
The text, says author Janković, was created as a need for constant examination of the phenomena of our region, but also as a desire to approach a topic that has fascinated us for decades in a different way.
"Taking into account social circumstances, the role of patriarchy in society and the position of women, this text aims, above all, to deconstruct the socially accepted prism through which we view virgins. Here we get to know the intimate confession of a woman in the outlines of a man, we hear what is not said and we question the role, purpose and historical need for the imposition of gender identity and control of the body in the discourse of that time," Janković points out.
After playing in Petrovac, a guest performance in Podgorica has been announced, in the "Dodest" hall of the "Budo Tomović" Cultural and Information Center, on Thursday, January 22nd at 20 p.m.
The monodrama "Virgina" was created based on the idea of Marta Ćeranić, and premiered at the Belgrade Drama Theater as part of the Ruta Festival.
