Exhibition Katarina Tomasevic Crawford entitled "With the Wind in Your Hair", will open on Tuesday, March 31, at 19 p.m., at the Perjanički Dom, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro announced.
She is the curator of the exhibition Marina Celebic. The exhibition presents a cycle of wire sculptures – portraits and stylized human figures – in which the artist explores psychological and emotional states as layers of the internal structure of identity. The works are created using a specific technique of “wire sculpting”, through a process of interweaving and shaping materials into complex, airy forms that simultaneously preserve mass and actively use negative space. Combining metal wire with epoxy clay, resin and paint, Katarina Tomašević Krawford builds sculptures of pronounced texturality and strong presence. Her works function as visual records of internal processes, in which personal experiences and symbolic layers of meaning intertwine. Special focus is placed on motifs of introspection and dreamer figures, while inspiration from the Japanese kintsugi technique further emphasizes the beauty of imperfection and traces of time. Katarina Tomašević Krawford was born in Titograd, and has lived and created in London for more than 20 years. She graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cetinje, and studied in France as a visiting student at the Academy in Lille. During her career, she has worked in set and costume design for theater and film, traditional furniture making, glass modeling, as well as pedagogical and therapeutic work in the field of fine arts. Her work is characterized by continuous research into different materials and techniques, through which she develops an authentic and recognizable sculptural expression.
