As part of the mosaic conservation project at the archaeological site of Duklja, the initial phases of expert work on its preservation have been successfully completed, in cooperation with the Embassy of Bulgaria and the Balkan Heritage Foundation.
The work began with the discovery of the mosaic, after which its surface was carefully cleaned and segmented, in order to protect the structure and prepare it for further processing. The mosaic was then safely transferred from the site to the work area, where detailed interventions are currently being carried out under the expert supervision of a renowned conservator. Tome Filova.
The first two phases of conservation are underway, which include the treatment of the back of the mosaic and its stabilization. These activities represent a key step in the process of protection and preparation for its final presentation.
The third phase will involve the application of a new layer of plaster, after which the mosaic will be returned to its original location. The final goal is its permanent protection and adequate display, so that it can be accessible to visitors during the tourist season.
The implementation of this project further improves the preservation of the cultural heritage of Duklja and strengthens international cooperation in the field of conservation and archaeology.
