The fifth premiere of the Podgorica City Theatre this year will be the play "Weeds", based on the drama "The Flower Girl". Mirjana Medojević, directed by Mirko RadonjićThe premiere is scheduled for Thursday, May 14th, at 20 pm in the Great Hall of the KIC "Budo Tomović".
The play talks about women who bear the burden of everyday life and, through a political, social and economic context, raises universal questions of freedom, love and dignity.
In addition to directing, Radonjić also designs the lighting and does the dramaturgy. Milana Matejić, scenography Smiljka Šeparović, costumes Lina Lekovic, and sound design Bojan Palikuća. The play features: Anja Misović, Danica Rajković, Dijana Dragojevic, Maja Šarenac, Tatjana Torbica, Ivona Čović Jaćimović, Sanja Vujisić i Branka Otašević.
Radonjić said that the work process was intense and emotionally demanding, emphasizing that the play speaks about the problems of women in Montenegrin society.
"We are trying to contribute to the eradication of this weed that undermines the very foundations of our society," the director said.
The City Theater states that the project confirms their mission of a theater that does not remain silent about reality, but rather transforms it into a space for dialogue and social change.
The play was also realized through cooperation with the Faculty of Visual Arts of the Mediterranean University, whose students worked on the visual identity of the play. The official poster was made by student Jovana Jovanović, while an exhibition of other student works will be set up in the lobby of the KIC "Budo Tomović" from May 13th to 15th.
A repeat performance of the play will be held on May 15th as part of the Montenegrin Theatre Showcase program.
