“Field of Signs” by Dragan Karadžić in celebration of two anniversaries

On the occasion of fifty years of artistic creativity and three decades of membership in the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts (CANU), an exhibition of academicians will be opened today at the CANU Gallery. Dragan Karadžić, entitled “Field of Signs”. The opening ceremony will be held at 20 p.m., and the exhibition will be opened by the Vice President of CANU, Academician Zoran Rašović.

The exhibition selector is an art historian, Ljiljana Zekovic.

The Academy of Arts and Sciences of Montenegro reminds us that Dragan Karadžić belongs to the middle generation of artists, who established themselves on the Montenegrin art scene in the 1970s and 1980s.

"After studying at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade, he distinguished himself as an artistic personality with an already developed and recognizable artistic expression. Since his early works, he has been nurturing the fundamental principles of his artistic aspirations, based on associative hunches, abstract formalizations and the psychographic script of unique symbolic and symbolic, spiritual and intellectual postulates, through which he shapes an original artistic universe," the statement emphasizes.

All of this has always been visible on Karadžić's canvases, sometimes to the eye, sometimes to the mind, soul or senses... His works represent a luxurious blend of different artistic expressions, but also a symbiosis of genres, and are experienced as a realm of creation, color, lightness, but also of childlike imagination and memories of the eternal and unattainable secrets of art.

"I have the feeling that everything I do, all my drawings and paintings, are just an attempt to reach the secret of art and nothing else. And when I say attempt, it means that I will work as long as I live and that I will forever try and search for that secret," Karadzic said in an interview for "Vijesti" once.

Undoubtedly, his artistic language is among the most complex and imaginative in contemporary Montenegrin painting, added CANU.

"He encourages wonder before the mystery of aniconic dilemmas, which he studiously and thoughtfully fits into the archetypal field of premonitions and symbolic magic. In this self-explanatory space, the cosmic drama of nature and the Zen Buddhist transcendence of the artist's spiritual states harmonize," the exhibition announcement reads.
