Actor Lizam Kaningem, who is remembered by audiences around the world for his role as Ser Davos Seavort in the cult series "Game of Thrones", will be one of the guests at this year's Slano Film Days festival from June 16 to 20. He is also known for his role in the Netflix series "Three Body Trouble", while during his rich career he has made notable appearances in the films "24 Hours to Live", "Warpath", "Safe House", "Clash of the Titans" and "The Wind in the Barley".
Cunningham has been nominated for numerous awards throughout his career, including the London Film Critics' Circle Award and the British Independent Film Award, while Michael Fassbender shared the BAFTA award for the short film "Pitch Black Heist". A special place in his filmography is occupied by the historical drama "Hunger" from 2008, directed by Steve McQueen, in which he played a priest. In that film, together with Fassbender, he delivered the famous seventeen-minute dialogue scene shot without a single cut, which is still considered one of the greatest acting achievements of modern cinema.
At the Slano Film Days festival, Cunningham will participate in a Film Conversation with the multi-award-winning director and screenwriter Jasmila Žbanić, winner of the Golden Bear for the film "Grbavica". Her film "Quo Vadis, Aida?" won four European Film Awards and was nominated for an Oscar and a BAFTA. Žbanić recently finished shooting her new film "Quo Vadis, Aida? - The Missing Part", which she will discuss in Slano together with the director of photography Kristin A. Mayer.
The audience will also have the opportunity to take a peek at the Hungarian director's new project. Lili HorvatHer film "My Notes on Mars", currently in post-production, is her first feature-length project in English. The psychological drama stars Rupert Frend i Mackenzie Davis, and the story follows a scientist who, after a mysterious disappearance, returns to her husband's life as a seemingly different person.
The film program will also include a screening of the award-winning film "Preparations for an Indefinite Life Together", which Lili Horvat presented at festivals in Venice, Toronto and Busan. The screening will also be attended by lead actress Nataša Stork, whose role as Marta brought her numerous international awards.
Among the festival's distinguished guests will be a Mexican director, screenwriter and producer. Michel Franco, whose films regularly win awards at the world's most important festivals. His latest film "Dreams" premiered at the 2025 Berlinale, while his oeuvre also includes "Memory", "Sunset", "The New Order", "Abril's Daughters" and "After Lucia".
A special focus of Slano Film Days remains supporting regional filmmakers and professionals in developing their careers and connecting with the international market. For this reason, numerous producers, talent agents, international film sales experts and casting directors will travel to Slano.
The program "Career Conversations" will include: Kate Rhodes James, known for her work on projects like "Sherlock", "Gladiator 2" and "Napoleon", as well as Francesco Vedovati, the multi-award-winning casting director of series and films such as "The White Lotus" and "The Two Popes". The program will be further enriched by Olivier Barbier, Emilia Georges, Mike Goodridge, Peter Spears, Timka Green, Nikola Barišić, Anila Gajević i Bojana Rnjak.
Among the festival's special guests will be an Italian director Maura Delpero, author of the film "Vermilion", winner of the Silver Lion in Venice, then Serbian director Ognjen Glavonic, Slovenian author Damjan Kozole, Oscar winner Danis Tanovic, producer Filip Bober, Erik Hemendorf, long-time collaborator Rubena Estlunda, as well as the director of photography Kristin A. Mayer.
The event's partner is the Sarajevo Film Festival.
