Montenegrin author mato Uljarević He was awarded the Best Emerging Artist award at the Mediterranean Film Festival in Tirana. The award was given to him for the animated film "Uroš", a work that was shown at numerous international festivals last year and was awarded the "Zlatko Grgić" award at the Animafest Zagreb 2026 World Animated Film Festival. The film explores the themes of memory, childhood, war and transience through expressive hand-drawn animation.
The Tirana Mediterranean Film Festival (TMFF) is an international film festival dedicated to contemporary Mediterranean cinema, with a special focus on short fiction, documentary and animated films. The festival brings together authors from different Mediterranean countries, creating a space for young artists, film professionals and audiences interested in new auteur poetics and contemporary social themes. Through screenings, discussions, workshops and professional programs, the Festival promotes cultural exchange and supports the development of a new generation of filmmakers. The film “Uroš” was recently screened at the MECAL Short and Animated Film Festival in Barcelona.
The film "Uroš" by Mato Uljarević was supported by Film Center of Montenegro and the Secretariat for Culture of the Capital City.
The film has so far been screened in the official selections of several European festivals, including in Slovenia (Animateka), Hungary (Primanima), Luxembourg (CinEast), and at the end of May it will also be screened at the Mediterranean Film Festival in Tirana.
