Book promotion by Maja Đurić

Presentation of the book “Analog Bridges of Light - Montenegrin and Croatian Photographers (1845-1975)” Maja Đurić will be held today in Podgorica, at 19 p.m., in the premises of Matica Crnogorska.

This richly illustrated book follows and documents 130 years of visual exchange between Croatia and Montenegro. The editor of the edition is Marko Spadijer, and they sign the book on behalf of the publisher Ivan Jovovic, Petar Popovic i Maja Savicevic.

The promotion is organized by Matica Crnogorska, which published the book in cooperation with the National Community of Montenegrins in Croatia and the Zagreb-based Skaner Studio. An art historian will speak about the book Tatjana Koprivica, art theorist Luka Rakojević, President of the National Community of Montenegrins in Croatia Nenad Bogdanović and editor of the Špadijer publication, while author Maja Đurić will also address the audience.

The book "Analog Bridges of Light - Croatian and Montenegrin Photographers (1845-1975)" is a richly illustrated study that follows and documents 130 years of visual exchange between Croatia and Montenegro, the press release states.

"Instead of viewing photographic heritage through national or academic frameworks, the author explores the flows of people, ideas, techniques and motifs that connected cities along the eastern Adriatic coast - from Dubrovnik, Split, Zadar, Rijeka and Zagreb to Boka, Budva, Bar, Cetinje and Podgorica. The book deals with photography as a technological and cultural phenomenon, pointing to the ongoing exchange of visual experiences between the two environments and the role of photographers as mediators of cultural ties," the book's description says.

Maja Đurić is an art historian, curator and art photographer. She received her MA in art history in Prague and her PhD in Belgrade with a thesis dedicated to the role of photography in shaping Montenegrin visual identity. She is a full professor at the University of Donja Gorica, where she teaches art history, history of photography, museology and exhibition design. During her career, she has realized numerous exhibitions in the country and abroad, was a member of the national presentation team of Montenegro at EXPO in Shanghai, and was the founder and long-time president of the Institute of Photography of Montenegro.
