More than two hundred years ago, in the silence of the Bijelo Polje chambers, an old iconographer Simeon Lazovic He would lower his brush onto the wood and leave a modest note at the bottom of each icon: "It was completed with the effort and labor of the hand of the sinful Simeon, an iconographer from the town of Bijelo Polje"...
This was recalled by the documentary filmmaker of the Bijelo Polje Museum at the opening of the eighth art colony "Painters Lazovići" in Bijelo Polje. Vesna Scekic.
"Simeon called himself humble, but what was left behind by him and his son Alexija it was immaculate, pure and immortal. Their hands did not just apply paint. In the dark ages of literacy in these regions, they wrote life with paint. And here we are, centuries later, under this same arch, gathered around the same fire of creativity. The thread that the Lazovićs started continues today through new creators, artists and stories, because tradition is not about worshipping ashes but about carrying the flame,” said Šćekić.
She reminded that for the next five days, Bijelo Polje will be a living studio under the open sky.
"Artists will seek their inspiration where nature is loudest and history is quietest - under the slopes of our proud Obrovo and on the promenade, next to the clear and restless waves of our lake. There, in dialogue with the river and the hills, the hand of modern painters will capture light and transform it into canvases that will bear witness to this time," said Šćekić.
Museum Curator Ivana Smolovic, She said that this year's convocation consists of eminent creators from Montenegro, Serbia, Croatia, North Macedonia, Turkey, Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
"With its authentic artistic stamp, the colony will transmit tradition and the flame of creativity through its work." Tanja Markuš (Montenegro), Fatmir Brežanin (Serbia), Vladan Randjelovic (Serbia), Marko Hrvoje Peruzovic (Croatia), Srđan Mićić (North Macedonia), Sevil Duru (Turkey), Tatjana Mijatovic (Slovenia) and Zdravko Krulj (Bosnia and Herzegovina).
"I hope that we all share a love for the creators, the painters Lazović, and that we are here together tonight to pay homage, with deep respect, to the legacy they created," Smolović emphasized.
The exhibition was officially opened by the academic painter Mladen Blažević.
"With the presence of the spirit that brought and continues to bring three editions of the book entitled "Painters Lazovići and their Era" and seven convocations of the art colony "Painters Lazovići", it is an honor and pleasure to open the exhibition of the eighth convocation," said Blažević and wished the creators successful work.
For Tanja Markuš, her first participation in an art colony was a strong reminder of the spirit of old Yugoslavia.
"And I think it's very important that we connect, that we collaborate together, and that we feel a little bit of that artistic spirit spreading," said Markuš, adding that influences, starting with the old masters, always exist and that all of that "helps you see where you are in all of this."
The musical part of the program featured performances by members of the KUD "Tekstilac" and Djurko Dubljevic on the guitar.
