The exhibition "Trace in Time" dedicated to the work of one of the most important Montenegrin photographers has opened at the Local History Museum in Pljevlja. Milan Pešić, whose extensive photographic work represents a valuable testimony to the life, people and space of Montenegro in the second half of the 20th century.

Opening the exhibition, the director of the Homeland Museum Dejana Drobnjak She said that the name of the exhibit best describes what lies before visitors.

"Photographs are traces, traces of a moment, a person, a place and a time. They are also testimonies that show great changes after several decades," said Drobnjak.

Milan Pešić, she added, used his camera to capture Montenegro rising from the ashes after World War II. His lens captured not only major events, but above all people and their everyday lives, farmers, nomads, Primorska, random passers-by, cities and regions, works and construction, but also the entire life that was changing before his lens.

Exhibition author, art historian Mirjana Dabović-Pejović, The exhibition presents Pešić's diverse and time-consuming photographic oeuvre, allowing visitors to see the development of photography in Montenegro in the second half of the 20th century and its place in broader artistic and social trends.

"Pešić's work was created in various professional and social circumstances - from working in photo clubs and newspaper photography, through cooperation with film and television media, to decades of systematic recording of the lives of people, events and spaces of Montenegro," said Dabović Pejović.

It is precisely the diversity of his work, as assessed at the opening, that gives special value to this opus, which at the same time belongs to the history of photography and represents a significant document for understanding the social changes that Montenegro has undergone.

The exhibition was opened by the President of the Pljevlja Municipal Assembly. Jovana Tosic, which particularly highlighted the way Pešić approached the man.

"I find it particularly interesting and valuable that Pešić photographed the man directly, recording his face and life story without embellishment and without the need to adapt reality to an ideal image," said Tošić.

According to her, it is precisely this approach that gives Pešić's photographs additional strength today, when society is increasingly surrounded by images that change reality and often foreground an artificially created image of the world.

Pešić's photographs, as pointed out, remind us of the value of authenticity, the beauty of a person as they are, and the significance of a moment that does not have to be embellished to be truly valuable and beautiful.

The magnitude of his creativity is best illustrated by the fact that Milan Pešić has more than 150.000 photographic records behind him. This is a huge treasury of memories of Montenegro that has changed, developed and faced great social changes.

The exhibition "Trace in Time" will be open to visitors until November 10th.
