The Budva Committee of the Liberal Party condemned the decision of the Municipality of Budva to increase the tax rate on real estate, which, as they stated, is a new attack by the municipal government on citizens' budgets. On the eve of the New Year, the Municipal Assembly of Budva made a decision to increase the tax rate on real estate for citizens, as well as for companies.
According to the leader of the Budva liberals, Blaž Rađenović, that party will initiate and seek the support of all councilors in the Budva Municipality Assembly to cancel this harmful decision. He stated that he will request the return of the old tax rate and the amendment of the law on real estate taxes, all in the mutual interest of our fellow citizens and the Municipality of Budva.
"We are witnesses that the consequences of all the affairs that shake our municipality, which we pointed out, led to permanent blocking of the municipal account. This led to the irregular payment of wages to employees. An increase in real estate taxes under these conditions seems insane. In the years of the economic crisis, when we have an attack on the citizens' budget and levies such as the cost of water services, parking, and when the consumer basket grows every day, the real estate tax rate increases for both the economy and citizens. For the sake of clarification, on this occasion, the broadest strata that own real estate in the Municipality of Budva were attacked. The tax per square meter of the self-proclaimed metropolis of tourism is much higher than in other parts of Montenegro, and the cost of living is many times higher than in other cities. The latest is that we are receiving a government decree according to which the salaries of employees in public and municipal bodies and institutions will be drastically reduced. Some of the Associations are already openly talking about the impossibility of organizing work in such conditions", said Radjenović.
He told the citizens of Budva "that the latest real estate tax increase will further impoverish their household budget, and only partially fill the empty coffers of the Municipality."
"The special piquancy in all this gibberish is the introduction of a tax on the land located in the hinterland, Paštrović, Pobor, Main, Grblj, Braić, which was inherited and which did not have any special financial weight. Please note that if there was an intention to put this land into operation, the Municipality should have offered development projects with a developed infrastructure and a goal, on the other hand, we have the primary branch of the economy, which is tourism in our Municipality, which all those who deal with tourism, this decision will have a disincentive effect, because due to the tax impact on their budget, no one will want to invest, and therefore the Municipality of Budva will suffer losses. Such a decision is already leading to chaos, and owners who have no income now will only have new levies," concludes Rađenović.
