Production in Bauxite Mines should start in the second half of January, weather conditions permitting, and preparatory work began four days ago at the Zagrad surface mine, announced subcontractor Ostoja Majmunović.
He was hired by the new owner of Bauxite, Veselin Pejović.
"The mine is quite neglected, so now we are cleaning the mining ground and preparing it for drilling and extraction. 10-12 former bauxite workers were hired for that job, and when production starts, 20 workers, also former bauxite miners, will be employed," Majmunović told "Vijesta".
Several dozen former workers, now pensioners of Rudnik bauxite, protested yesterday morning in front of the Assembly building because, like their colleagues in KAP, they were not guaranteed severance pay of ten thousand euros each.
"Dear Members of Parliament, vote in the Assembly for severance pay for retired Bauxite workers, as you voted for KAP workers. Don't let us be seen as second class citizens. The production of every ton of aluminum in KAP began with excavated bauxite ore in difficult conditions and with the sweat of our miners," the leaflet distributed by Bauxite pensioners yesterday in front of the parliament emphasizes, among other things.
They announced that they will gather again today at the same place because they expect the Assembly to declare on the Proposal that will enable them to pay severance pay.
"These are forced pensions, and people receive 250-300 euros each, and some have a larger monthly loan installment than their pension," said Radivoje Knežević, a Boksita pensioner, to "Vijesta".
Former workers of Košuta from Cetinje also protested in front of the Assembly
Former workers of Košuta from Cetinje also protested yesterday in front of the Assembly at the same time as the retired miners, but on the other side of the boulevard. They carried the Montenegrin and American flags. "We don't know what our status is. Even the mayor of Cetinje (Aleksandar Bodanović) does not address us. We are asking them to return three million euros to settle our claims," said Slavka Raičević, a former employee of Košuta, to "Vijesta".
She added that she will be waiting for the New Year and the upcoming Christmas in front of the Cetinje Municipality building. "We don't know where the money from the sale of more than 30 stores is," added former employee Branko Jovićević, who worked at the former Košuta store in Bar.
