Germany and its development bank KfW are interested in supporting the implementation of projects in Montenegro, their representatives said at a meeting with the Minister of Finance, Radoj Žugić.

Today, Žugić met with the ambassador of Germany in Montenegro, Gudrun Elizabeth Štajnaker, and the director of the KfW office in Montenegro, Željko Uljarević.

It was announced from the Ministry that at the meeting, the previous cooperation between that government department and Germany, which, as Žugić said, is an important partner of Montenegro on the political and economic level, was positively evaluated.

Žugić rated the cooperation implemented through KFW Bank, which has been active in Montenegro since 2001 and has supported the implementation of a large number of projects in the field of communal infrastructure, energy, and the banking sector, as particularly significant.

"The implementation of those projects significantly contributed to the improvement of living conditions, but also to the creation of assumptions for economic development," the announcement states.

It was jointly stated that further activities should be focused on improving the traffic infrastructure in the coastal part of Montenegro.

In this sense, they discussed the need to realize the bypass project around the coastal cities and the construction of the so-called expressway, which, according to Steinaker, would eliminate "bottlenecks" that threaten to slow down the further development of tourism.

Representatives of KfW Bank announced that they are ready to financially support the implementation of that project, with favorable conditions.

The participants of the meeting discussed the continuation of the Energy Efficiency in Public Facilities project. The first phase of the project, which will be completed in the first half of next year, involved the reconstruction and modernization of 21 elementary and secondary schools in Montenegro, and the value of the works was 13 million euros, of which the amount of 1,5 million euros was a donation from Germany .

"The second phase of the project would include, in addition to educational institutions, facilities that are used for social and administrative purposes," the announcement states.
