The Municipality of Budva has so far collected about 1,02 million euros based on the residence tax, with a significant increase in the collection from individuals, the Secretariat for Economy and Finance announced.

Head of the Department for the Economy, Vasko Milanović, said that 426 euros have been collected from individuals so far this year, and about 80 less last year.

"There has been a significant shift here, due to the fact that 2,5 thousand newly registered beds have appeared so far. Now we have exceeded the number of 24 beds that have permission to operate," Milanović told the Mina-business agency.

In July, as he recalled, a so-called "hole" appeared at the company and there was a backlog, that is, a shortfall in payment, and he called because there were fewer guests in the hotels.

According to him, the inspection started working some 15 days earlier than last year, which resulted in better collection.

"I am very satisfied with the situation this year. Last year, we ended up with about 1,95 million euros in collections, and if we continue at this pace, I think we will equal or come close to that figure. "If we start from the fact that it is 80 cents, then you can imagine how many people paid the tax," said Milanović.

The law on residence tax, which is in force, was adopted in 2004. It regulates the collection and distribution of residence tax.

"According to that law, we cannot punish anyone. And that is the success of such a large collection, because that law is not aligned with the law on misdemeanors and we cannot punish anyone if they have not paid the residence tax," explained Milanović.

The tourist tax is the income of the tourist organization, and the collected funds are used to finance the activities of local tourist organizations, namely 80 percent and 20 percent to finance the programs of the National Tourist Organization (NTO).
