Montenegro will be included in the PayPal system in the second half of June, it was unofficially confirmed to the Mina-business agency from the Central Bank (CBCG) and the Ministry of Finance.

The director of the information technology (IT) sector in the CBCG, Dejan Abazović, said that, in the event of a possible delay, Montenegro could be included in PayPal in the first part of July.

He said that he received the information about the inclusion of Montenegro in the PayPal system in communication with PayPal representatives from the sector in charge of government relations, but that it has not yet been confirmed in writing.

"I expect in the coming days that the competent state institutions, that is, relevant ministries, which are also in communication with PayPal representatives, will be able to confirm this," said Abazović.

According to him, it is planned that only the cent function, i.e. the payment function, will be enabled via PayPal.

The exact date of the official inclusion of Montenegro in the PayPal system is also known, but Abazović said that he could not announce it, because PayPal had bad experiences with the publication of such information due to the so-called stampede effect that can occur when registering a large number of orders at the same time.

"Unfortunately, I cannot announce the date, because I am obliged to respect PayPal's position that it is not officially announced," said Abazović.

The Ministry informed the Mina-business agency that their representatives, through communication with foreign partners, have the same information about the inclusion of the state in the PayPal system, which has not yet been officially confirmed.

"Until then, of course, the Government and the competent institutions in full capacity will continue to be dedicated to intensive communication with that company, as well as to constant improvement of regulations so that electronic business and trade, which PayPal will enable, would be more efficient," said the Ministry. .

Representatives of the Ministry were also unable to specify the date of PayPal's arrival in Montenegro.

"We hope that this will happen in the next two months," the representatives of the Ministry announced.

They stated that they are pleased with the fact confirmed by PayPal's arrival in Montenegro, namely that international partners assess the situation on the Montenegrin market and the country's overall financial system as safe and stable.

"The launch of this service, in that sense, strengthens the credibility of the state and means an even more complete integration of Montenegro, in the financial sense, into the international community," the Ministry stated.

The story about the inclusion of Montenegro in the PayPal payment system was updated last year. At that time, the Ministry of Information Society and Telecommunications announced that last year should be the last year without the PayPal system, because, as stated at the time, all the prerequisites for its introduction had been met.

Soon after, Serbia was added to the list of countries where the PayPal service can be used, although it was previously announced that Montenegro would receive it in a package with several countries in the region.

The Ministry of Information Society and Telecommunications then announced that it was surprised by PayPal's decision not to include Montenegro in the list of countries where their payment service can be used.

PayPal was founded in December 1998 and is a leading online payment and money transfer company.

The company has more than 100 million active registered accounts and is available in 190 markets. PayPal supports payment in 25 currencies.
