In Montenegro, according to the latest data from the Statistical Office (Monstat), 20 percent of the working population is unemployed.
The labor force survey conducted for the second quarter (April, May and June) showed that the active population was 245.800, of which 196.700 were employed and 49.100 were unemployed.
"The number of employed compared to the previous quarter increased by 1,9 percent, and the number of unemployed decreased by 2,4 percent. The activity rate for the second quarter of this year was 49,1 percent, employment 39,3 percent, while the unemployment rate was 20 percent," Monstat announced.
According to the data of the Employment Office of Montenegro, 28,12 thousand citizens, or 12,12 percent, are unemployed.
The difference in the data of Monstat and the Institute is in the methodology according to which they calculate the number of unemployed.
According to the way Monstat processes the data, a person is employed who, before the survey, "performed any regular or usual work for pay or profit for at least one hour, or performed any unpaid work or did not work, but have a job to which they will return" . The employment rate, according to the definition of Monstat, represents the percentage of employees in the total population aged 15 and over.

On the other hand, the Institute deletes from its records persons who do not report regularly or who refuse to do the work offered. Government representatives, when presenting data on unemployment, exclusively refer to more favorable data, i.e. those published by the Institute.
According to data from the Labor Force Survey, 95 percent of employees have some form of employment contract signed with the employer, of that number, 80,9 percent of workers are employed for an indefinite period, while 19,1 percent of them have a fixed-term contract.
The largest number of workers are employed in service activities, 73,6 percent. Of that number, 23,4 percent work in trade, that is, 24.900 women and 21.100 men.
10 percent of the total number of employees works in state administration and defense, which makes 19.600 workers, 14.100 or 7,2 percent of the total number of employees work in education. 10.700 citizens or 5,4 percent of the total number are employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing.
According to Monstat data, only 15 percent of the working population aged 24 to 12,3 are employed, while 44,6 percent are unemployed, 25 percent are employed in the 49 to 60,2 age category, and 20,6 are unemployed. 50 percent. And in the age category from 65 to 45,4, there is a higher number of employed people, a total of 11,2 percent, while XNUMX percent are unemployed.
40 working hours per week is not respected
Monstat announced that in agriculture, forestry and fishing, they have the shortest working week, which lasts 40 hours instead of the 38 hours established by law.
All other employees work over the maximum set by law and in the category designated by Monstat as "non-agricultural activities" they work 42,6 hours a week. In service activities, which include trade and hospitality, employees work 43,6 hours each.
Annual inflation 4 percent
The monthly inflation in August, measured by the consumer price index, was announced by Monstat, was 0,4 percent, while the annual inflation was four percent. The biggest impact on the monthly inflation rate was the increase in the prices of electricity, fuel and lubricants, food services and personal care.
Observed by main groups, monthly price growth was recorded in housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels groups by 3,2 percent, transportation by 2,2 percent, hotels and restaurants by 0,5 percent, and other products and services by 0,2 percent.
The monthly inflation during August was most affected by the item related to electricity, gas and other fuels, which increased by 4,4 percent, then the costs of using and maintaining vehicles by 3,9 percent, while food services and personal hygiene were affected by 0,3 percent.
The prices of manufacturers of industrial products in August compared to July were on average 4,2 percent higher. In August, compared to the same month of the previous year, they were higher by 5,1 percent, while compared to December 2011, they increased by 7,3 percent.
