EPCG: We will try not to exclude households

The Ministry of Economy tasked municipalities to reduce electricity consumption in order to avoid or ease the announced restrictions.

The Government Department has given an order to all municipalities and their communities to apply the measures, starting with turning off public lighting.

"This implies a reduction in energy consumption for public lighting (switching off where it is not necessary), for billboards, shop windows and the like, as well as a reduction in consumption in public companies, institutions and companies," the Ministry announced.

They estimate that the implementation of those measures is extremely important, in order to avoid or ease restrictions.

"If this is not done, there will be restrictions in the supply of electricity for all consumers in accordance with the Law on Energy", warned the relevant ministry.

Difficulty in obtaining electricity

They note that the consumption reduction is necessary due to the unfavorable situation in the power system of Montenegro and the region, conditioned by weather conditions. The problem is the difficult procurement of the missing amount of electricity, which is necessary for the orderly supply of consumers. Bulgaria and Bosnia and Herzegovina have suspended the export of electricity, and some traders are canceling deliveries to Montenegro.

Elektroprivreda informed that there is enough energy until Monday, and they are trying to provide the missing electricity, the price of which exceeds 130 euros per megawatt-hour (MWh). Citizens will feel the expensive import through the future price.

In EPCG, they confirm that, if the Government had to announce restrictions, households would be the last to be hit. They would start with public lighting, institutions, companies, large consumers... Hospitals and important institutions of national interest have priority in delivery.

The Administration of the Montenegrin Electric Transmission System sent instructions for the application of reductions to EPCG Distribution and direct consumers - KAP, Željezara and Željeznica. CGES is obliged to inform them how much energy they have in order to distribute it so that the system is not endangered.

Podgorica turns off the lights after midnight, except in the center

The administration of the Capital City announced that the Public Utilities Public Utility will immediately begin implementing measures to save electricity, by turning off public lighting in rural areas at midnight, and an hour later in suburban areas.

"This regime will continue until further notice. Light signaling on the territory of the capital city is correct and in operation. Please note that all services of the capital city will take measures for the rational consumption of electricity in their premises," announced the administration of the capital city.
