Lukšić sent an initiative to the Prosecutor's Office to investigate EPCG's operations

Prime Minister Igor Lukšić sent an initiative to the Parliament to include in the agenda, as an urgent procedure, the discussion on the responsibility of the members of the Board of the Regulatory Energy Agency (RAE) regarding the latest decision on the increase in electricity prices.

The initiative, as reported to the Mina-business agency, was sent to the Prosecutor's Office to urgently review the operations of Elektroprivreda (EPCG).

After a meeting with representatives of the Union of Free Trade Unions (USSCG), the Network for the Affirmation of the Non-Governmental Sector (MANS) and the Student Union on Monday, Lukšić supported their request to investigate the operations of Elektroprivreda EPCG and any disputed contracts.

He also said that the Supreme State Prosecutor should enter EPCG or any other company and examine the content of each contract, if it is considered that the inflation of costs contributed to the request for an increase in the price of electricity.

Lukšić also announced that he will request the formation of an independent team of experts who will review all aspects of the methodology and regulations applied by the RAE.

The RAE told the Mina-business agency that they are ready and obliged to appear before the parliament and to explain their decisions to the public of Montenegro.

"It may also be an opportunity to show that we worked honorably," RAE said.

The RAE Board is elected by the Parliament, which alone has the right to decide on the termination of office of its members.

The organizers of the protest on January 21, MANS, USSCG and the Student Union, demand that the latest decision on the increase in electricity prices be withdrawn, as well as that the members of the RAE Board be relieved of their duties.

Lukšić said that the Government will propose to the EPCG that, within the framework of the new methodology, the range between higher and lower tariffs should be increased from one to two to one to three, which would mean that all citizens who want to save in this way would amortize the price increase. According to him, the government will also propose that EPCG regular payers increase the discount from five to ten percent.
