In terms of competitiveness in the tourism and travel industry, Montenegro has made the greatest progress of all the countries included in the World Economic Forum (WEF) report.
Montenegro is according to to the WEF report advanced 16 places and took the 36th position out of 139 countries on the list. Montenegro has a total of 4,56 points, and Slovenia and Croatia are ahead of the countries from the region.
"Montenegro is strongly committed to the development of tourism and travel, where it ranks seventh, which is not surprising when it is known that this sector is extremely important for the country's economy.
However, although the tourist infrastructure is at a fairly good level, the road infrastructure must be further improved in order to strengthen the competitiveness in that area", according to the WEF report for the comparative period from 2009 to 2011.
In the area of regulation, Montenegro is in 32nd place, with 5,15 points, which is one of the areas that the country has been dedicated to lately.
When it comes to business environment and infrastructure, Montenegro ranks 49th, with 4,15 points, and in the area of human, cultural and natural resources, it ranks 36th with 4,38 points.
Of the countries in the region, only Croatia is ahead of Montenegro, although it is ranked lower in the areas of regulation, where it ranks 42nd, and resources, where it ranks 43rd.
In Europe, according to competitiveness in the field of tourism and travel, Montenegro occupies the 25th position.
According to competitiveness, Macedonia is 37th in Europe, or 76th in the world, and Serbia is 38th in Europe and 82th in the world.
Bosnia and Herzegovina is in the penultimate place in Europe, 41st, or 97th among the countries of the world.
